Mini-Neckies are a smaller variation of Necky, who have appeared throughout the Donkey Kong series. They first appeared in Donkey Kong Country. The only notable Mini-Necky is Krow, a boss of Donkey Kong Country 2. They are likely based on a Turkey vulture.

History

Donkey Kong Country

Mini-Necky debuts in Donkey Kong Country.

Mini-Necky continually fires coconuts out of its mouth to attack DK and Diddy. A few move vertically and then fire coconuts. Like Necky, it is defeated if jumped on. It is slightly more uncommon than a regular Necky. It appears in the levels Vulture Culture, Ice Age Alley, Trick Track Trek, and Elevator Antics. In the Game Boy Color version, it appears in two more levels: Winky's Walkway and Necky Nutmare, its first and final level appearances respectively.

In the Game Boy Advance re-release, a photograph of it is obtained if DK hand slaps in the center of the Necky's Nuts boss arena.

It is revealed through hacking that Mini-Necky has unused frames for throwing coconuts like Necky.[1]

Donkey Kong Land

Mini-Necky reappears in Donkey Kong Land. It has an identical role as its previous role. It appears slightly less, because it only appears in four levels: Deck Trek, Landslide Leap, Kong Krazy and Fast Barrel Blast.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Mini-Necky returns as a common enemy in Donkey Kong Country 2. It has a different role than in Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land: instead of spitting coconuts, it dives forward at Diddy and Dixie if they approach it. This somewhat makes Mini-Necky act like its normal counterpart. Also fitting with the pirate theme, Mini-Neckies now wear bandannas and have a deeper voice (heard when diving). There is also a Mini-Necky boss named Krow, who appears as the game's first boss. It later dies and is renamed Kreepy Krow; ghostly Mini-Neckies and a few regular ones assist it in battle. In the ending credits, it is classified under the "Lazy Landlubbers" class.

Mini-Necky appears in the following levels: Kannon's Klaim, Squawks's Shaft, Bramble Scramble, Mudhole Marsh, Web Woods, Castle Crush, Chain Link Chamber, Screech's Sprint, and Animal Antics.

Donkey Kong Land 2

Mini-Neckys reprise in Donkey Kong Land 2, with an identical role as in Donkey Kong Country 2. It appears much less often, because it only appears in Kannon's Klaim and Mudhole Marsh. Mini-Necky and its undead variation again fights with Kreepy Krow in Gloomy Gulch. It is misnamed "Necky" in the game's ending credits and is now classified under "The Baddies".

DK: King of Swing

Mini-Necky reappears in DK: King of Swing. Its feathers were recolored blue. It either swoops at DK or fires coconuts in this game, its traits from Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2, respectively. It frequently appears in the Wild West World.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

Mini-Necky reappears in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast as an in-game item. Its feather colors change to normal in this game. It can be retrieved from green balloons. It attacks the racer behind the user, and he or she loses a Wild Move.

DK: Jungle Climber

Mini-Necky appears in DK: Jungle Climber, with an identical role as in DK: King of Swing.
