Kremkoins are golden coins rewarded for completing Bonus Levels in Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2. There are usually two or three bonus barrels and rewards per level (except for the Lost World's), and one is awarded for defeating a boss for the first time. Kremkoins are key items needed to get 100% completion of the game.

Kremkoins were later replaced with Bonus Coins in Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong Land III.

In this game, Kremkoins are mainly used to pay Klubba's fine in order to enter Lost World. Fifteen coins must be payed to access one level in Lost World. There are a total of 75 coins in the game, meaning 75 different Bonus Barrels and 5 levels in Lost World. Lost World's bonus barrels have DK Coins instead of Kremkoins, and only one per level.

In this game, there was a very useful cheat usable on the first level to obtain all the Kremkoins at once, and get a lot of game % complete. It can be viewed here:

How to do the cheat

Donkey Kong Land 2

In Donkey Kong Land 2, Kremkoins have a slightly different role, because in the game's single Klubba's Kiosk (located to the left of Gloomy Gulch in the overworld), the Kongs have to pay Klubba every Kremkoin at once to enter the Lost World. They do not pay to access individual levels.

The game has 47 Kremkoins in total, fewer than that of Donkey Kong Country 2. This is likely because of the Game Boy's memory limitations.
