The Mine Cart is a vehicle that appears in Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong 64, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. It is a basic measure for transportation across the Kremling's underground mining tunnels in these games. These were replaced by Skull Carts in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, then into Toboggans in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.
Donkey Kong Country
These appear in the levels Mine Cart Carnage and Mine Cart Madness. Mine Carts do not stop regardless of controller input, and the only real control player have over it is jumping. As such, the two levels consist of the mine cart charging through a mineshaft in the cart while avoid mine hazards, such as abandoned mine carts or sudden de-railings throughout the level. Krashes sometimes appear, who are Kritters riding Mine Carts in the opposite direction of the Kong's. These levels can be quite risky, and is highly suggested to time jumps carefully.
Donkey Kong 64
In Donkey Kong 64, Mine Carts are used for mini-games. These mini-games usually involve a Kong riding a Mine Cart and either jumping in and out of the Cart to collect DK coins and dodge obstacles. Another type of mini-game involving Mine Carts is when a Kong has to swing side-to-side in the Cart to collect DK coins or switch levers to avoid danger and send other threats into danger.
Donkey Kong Country Returns
In Donkey Kong Country Returns, there are two types of Mine Carts, one type of Mine Cart is empty when Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong jump into it, this Mine Cart will stay with the Kong's once they are in it, even when the Kong's jump, the only way to get out of this Mine Cart is to either lose a life or reach a point of the level where the tracks are bent and broken which throw the Kong's out of the Cart. The other type of Mine Cart is full of blue crystals that make Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have to stand on top of the Cart, these Mine Carts mainly serve as a moving platform which the Kong's can jump off of and usually have to do so, so they can reach another Mine Cart. Mine Carts are found in the levels Crazy Cart, Rickety Rails, Grip & Trip, Bombs Away, The Mole Train, Prehistoric Path, and Roasting Rails.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, minecarts will behave as they did in Returns, though now some of their levels will have in-depth camera angles. Players can now take them into Arrow Barrels, and even jump between rails in a behind-the-back perspective. The confirmed minecart levels are Trunk Twister and High Tide Ride.
