Koin, the DK Coin guardian.

Koins are Kremlings encountered in every level of the games Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble and Donkey Kong Land III. Koins wear buckets on their head and carry a shield which has a DK Coin attached to it.

If the Kongs approach a Koin, he will simply bash them away; if they attempt to jump on him he will simply raise his shield and block the jump. Koins are immune to almost any kind of attack. Even TNT Barrels are useless against them. Fortunately, Dixie and/or Kiddy Kong can defeat a Koin by using a Steel Keg. They have to throw the Steel Keg over him, which will then rebound off a wall (sometimes the Kongs must find another way to defeat Koin using the Steel Keg) and hit Koin in the back, defeating him and giving Dixie and Diddy a DK Coin as reward.

Most of the time, Koins are found near the beginning or the end of the level.

On a side note, some Koins can only be defeated with the assistance of a Kremling enemy named Bazuka. In some levels, the Steel Keg required to defeat Koin is obtained by bringing an Animal Buddy past the No Animal Sign. In these cases, the Kongs only get one chance to defeat Koin; if they fail, they must replay the entire level to get another chance.

A purple-ish version of Koin called Koindozer is encountered in the level "Koindozer Klamber". Koindozers are much more aggressive than their green brethren, chasing the Kongs and attempting to bash them into pits.

Trivia

  • According to the game's credits, Koins belong to the "Kremling Kreeps" enemy class.
  • The name Koin is derived from the words "Coin" and "Kremling".
