Kocos are clown fish that are found in the waters of the Northern Kremisphere.
Kocos are fish enemies that first appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, where they are one of the most common underwater enemies. They are based on the literal interpretation of a clownfish, as shown from their face paint and big red nose. Like Cheep Cheeps of the Mario franchise, there are both red and green Kocos, whose behavior is determined by their color. Green Kocos are completely stationary while the red ones swim back and forth in an area. In underwater levels, there are also red Kocos that swim nonstop in a single direction. In the Game Boy Advance remake, their roles were reversed.
Kocos first appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! They are one of the most common underwater enemies. Kocos bear a resemblance to Cheep Cheeps of the Mario franchise and, like them, come in the colors red and green and swim in a set pattern depending on color. They are also similar to Bitesizes. Green Kocos remain completely still, while the red variety swims back and forth within an area. In underwater-themed levels, they are also both found swimming forward nonstop.

Kocos can only be defeated with the aid from Enguarde the Swordfish by stabbing them with his bill or Nibbla who can eat them. In the level, "Fish Food Frenzy", feeding Nibbla Kocos improves its mood. According to the game's credits, Kocos belong to the "Aquatic Attackers" enemy class.
Like other underwater enemies, Kocos can only be defeated if Enguarde stabs them. In the level Fish Food Frenzy, Dixie and Kiddy are required to guide Nibbla into eating Kocos to prevent it from becoming angry and biting them. In Dixie Kong's Photo Album, Kocos are classified under the "Aquatic Attackers" enemy class.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Koco's color schemes are reversed: stationary Kocos are red, and moving ones are green.
Kocos also appear in Donkey Kong Land III and retain their appearance and role from Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. Only red Kocos appear in the game (as shown from their behavior), which is more evident in the Game Boy Color port, where their sprites are red. Two red Kocos appear on the game's box art.

Kocos also reappear in Donkey Kong Land III. They have the same appearance and role as in Donkey Kong Country 3, although only red Kocos appear (as shown from the Game Boy Color version). Two red Kocos also appear on the game's box art.

“Colorful clown-fish that patrols the waters on DK Island.”
Donkey Kong Country 3 manual, page 19
