“Colorful clown-fish that patrols the waters on DK Island.”
Donkey Kong Country 3 manual, page 19

Kocos are clown fish that are found in the waters of the Northern Kremisphere. Kocos first appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! They are one of the most common underwater enemies. Kocos bear a resemblance to Cheep Cheeps of the Mario franchise and, like them, come in the colors red and green and swim in a set pattern depending on color. They are also similar to Bitesizees. Green Kocos remain completely still, while the red variety either swims forward without stopping, or swims back and forth within an area.

Kocos can only be defeated with the aid from Enguarde the Swordfish by stabbing them with his bill or Nibbla who can eat them. In the level, "Fish Food Frenzy", feeding Nibbla Kocos improves its mood. According to the game's credits, Kocos belong to the "Aquatic Attackers" enemy class.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Koco's color schemes are reversed: stationary Kocos are red, and moving ones are green.

Kocos also reappear in Donkey Kong Land III. They remain basically the same in this appearance as the previous one, although only red Kocos appear in Donkey Kong Land III. Two Kocos appear on the game's box art.
