In Donkey Kong Country, Neckys are common enemies who appear in many levels, especially in Vine Valley. There are two types of Neckys: one is perched and throws coconuts in a predetermined direction, while the other flies straightforward. Both types can be defeated if stomped or from having a barrel thrown at them. Additionally, coconut-throwing Neckys can also be defeated from being rolled into. Their coconuts can damage the Kongs. The flying Neckys are often required to cross gaps or to enter a Bonus Barrel, such as the ones at the start of Tree Top Town and Snow Barrel Blast. The flying Neckys appear in more levels than the coconut-throwing variant. There are two Necky bosses, both only ever seen by their head, Master Necky and Master Necky Snr.

The first appearance of Neckys was in the game Donkey Kong Country, here they were common enemies. Neckys will try to attack Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong by flying into them or by throwing coconuts at them. Neckys can be defeated by simply jumping on them or by throwing a barrel at them. Donkey Kong Country also features two Necky bosses named Master Necky and Master Necky Snr.
Neckys appear in the following levels:
*Jungle Hijinxs (throw coconut)
*Winky's Walkway (flying)
*Millstone Mayhem (throw coconut)
*Vulture Culture (flying and throw coconut)

*Tanked Up Trouble (flying)
*Necky Nutmare (throw coconut and flying) (GBC only)
*Loopy Lights (throw coconut)
*Platform Perils (flying)

Neckys also appear in Donkey Kong Country's Game Boy sequel, Donkey Kong Land. In this game Neckys are once again common enemies.
Donkey Kong Land
Perched, nut-throwing Neckys reappear in Donkey Kong Land along with Mini-Neckys. Neckys are exceedingly rare, appearing only in two levels, Congo Carnage and Pot Hole Panic. While only the perched type appears, their defeat sprites resemble upside-down flying sprites.

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2 a sub-species of Neckys, called Mini-Neckys are introduced. Though Mini-Neckys are, as the name would imply small in size they are somewhat more vicious than regular Neckys. Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2 also has a Mini-Necky boss named Krow.

Buzzards appear in levels 3, 8, and 9 of Donkey Kong Country Barrel Maze. They fly above the playable barrel, attempting to drop coconuts on it. If the barrel gets hit by a Buzzard's coconut, it loses some energy.

Neither Neckys or Mini-Neckys appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble or Donkey Kong Land 3.

In Donkey Kong 64 two vultures that are presumably Neckys appear in the area Angry Aztec. One of these vultures, which is found in the temple Tiny Kong is found in is encountered by Lanky Kong. This Necky must be blasted several times with Lanky's Grape Shooter in order to cause it to drop the Golden Banana it is carrying.
Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
Neckys appear as obstacles in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. They are obstacles in three courses, Mt. Dynamite, Cranky's Temple, and Temple Heights. If a racer hits into a Necky, it latches on them, slowing them down. A Necky can be defeated by one hit, and they help a racer perform Wild Move combos.

Another Necky, which is also encountered in Angry Aztec near Snide's HQ is actually benevolent and capable of speech. This Necky, after it is freed from the cage it is trapped in by Diddy Kong will challenge Diddy to a game; if Diddy can fly through all the rings the Necky drops he will obtain a Golden Banana.
Super Smash Bros. series
Neckys only appear in the background of two stages in the Super Smash Bros. series. In Super Smash Bros., Neckys sometimes appear in the sunset sky of the Kongo Jungle stage, using their original sprites; they return with the stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Melee, returning in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

In the game Super Smash Bros. Neckys can sometimes be seen flying in the backround of the arena, Congo Jungle. In Super Smash Bros.'s sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee Neckys can be seen in the backround of the arena Jungle Japes.

Neckys[1][2] (alternately pluralized as Neckies)[3] are large brown vultures first appearing in Donkey Kong Country. They have a smaller variant, Mini-Neckys, which have made more appearances than them.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country[edit]

Donkey Kong climbs between Neckies in Forest Frenzy in Donkey Kong Country. The Blast Barrel leading to the first Bonus Level is hidden below.
Donkey Kong encounters a group of Neckys in Forest Frenzy of Donkey Kong Country

Neckys appear in the following levels:

Donkey Kong Land[edit]

Perched, nut-throwing Neckys reappear in Donkey Kong Land along with Mini-Neckys. Neckys are exceedingly rare, appearing only in two levels, Congo Carnage and Pot Hole Panic. While only the perched type appears, their defeat sprites resemble upside-down flying sprites.

Donkey Kong Country Barrel Maze[edit]

Buzzards[4] appear in levels 3, 8, and 9 of Donkey Kong Country Barrel Maze. They fly above the playable barrel, attempting to drop coconuts on it. If the barrel gets hit by a Buzzard's coconut, it loses some energy.

DK: King of Swing[edit]

Although Neckys themselves do not return in DK: King of Swing, the second boss, Fire Necky, is a type of Necky.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast[edit]

Neckys appear as obstacles in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. They are obstacles in three courses, Mt. Dynamite, Cranky's Temple, and Temple Heights. If a racer hits into a Necky, it latches on them, slowing them down. A Necky can be defeated by one hit, and they help a racer perform Wild Move combos.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Ultimate. Featureless bird silhouettes that are likely intended to be Neckys also fly across the distant background of Jungle Japes in Super Smash Bros. Melee, returning in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Unused appearances[edit]

Donkey Kong Racing[edit]
