Krow (Japanese: ゾッキー, Zocky[1]) is a gigantic Mini-Necky and the first boss of both Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2. Its attacks are much different from that of a regular Mini-Necky's. After its boss fight, Krow dies and continues under its undead alias Kreepy Krow, who is later fought in Gloomy Gulch.

Krow has black feathers and peach-colored talons, each with three claws. The tip of its beak is red. Krow wears a belt with a golden buckle and a black hat with a Kremling skull and crossbones emblem on it.

Krow's name is a pun on "crow", except its name starts with a "k". Despite its name, Krow is a vulture and not a crow.

Appearances in video games[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 2[edit]

Diddy tosses an egg at Krow.

Krow is the world boss of Gangplank Galleon, located at its crow's nest: "Krow's Nest".

Krow reappears in the ending's "Cast of Characters" segment. It, along with every other boss in the game, are classified under the Barnacled Bosses group.

In the Game Boy Advance remake, the Kongs can re-battle Krow (while timed) if they pay Swanky ten Banana Bunch Coins. This is also the case with every other boss. Swanky awards Diddy and Dixie two Blue Balloons if they defeat Krow.

Diddy and Dixie are confronted by Krow when they enter Krow's Nest. It flies up to its nest, takes an egg out, and tosses it on to the ground. The egg bounces a few times and gradually bounces lower with each bounce until it stops. Both Kongs must avoid it. Diddy or Dixie can alternatively jump on the egg while it is bouncing to stop it from doing so. The lead Kong must then pick up the egg, like an ordinary barrel, and toss it at Krow. This process is repeated one more time.

After being hit a second time, Krow flies quickly toward its nest and bashes its head into it. A few eggs fall out of it, spinning. Diddy and Dixie must avoid the falling eggs. One of them lands on to the ground, and the lead Kong must pick it up and toss it at Krow. This process repeats itself another time.

Krow gets defeated when it is hit a fourth time. The Kongs are awarded a Kremkoin for defeating it and can move off to Crocodile Cauldron. In the Game Boy Advance version, after Krow gets defeated, a sequence shows its spirit (Kreepy Krow) leaving its body and flying away.

Donkey Kong Land 2[edit]

Diddy in a boss fight with Krow.

Krow reappears in Donkey Kong Land 2. It reprises its role as the boss of Gangplank Galleon at Krow's Nest. The rematch is different than in Donkey Kong Country 2, just like every other boss battle in the game. Additionally, Krow's spectral alias Kreepy Krow reappears as the boss of Gloomy Gulch. Both it and Krow share the same sprites in this game.

Krow appears in the "Cast of Characters" segment of the game's ending credits. It is classified under the "The Baddies" group, rather than "Barnacled Bosses" in Donkey Kong Country 2.

When Diddy and Dixie enter Krow's Nest, Krow gets an egg from its nest offscreen. It carries the egg and swoops to the opposite side of the stage; the active Kong must jump over Krow during its swoop. Afterward, Krow drops the egg, and it bounces a few times and gradually bounces lower until it stops. Like in Donkey Kong Country 2, the active Kong can jump on it while it is bouncing to stop it from doing so. Diddy or Dixie must then pick up the egg and toss it at Krow. This process is repeated another time.

After being hit a second time, Krow flies back and forth, causing eggs to fall out of its nest and rain down the stage, spinning. The active Kong must evade these eggs. One of the eggs does not spin and lands directly on the ground. Diddy or Dixie must pick it up and throw it at Krow to injure it a third time. This process is repeated one more time.

After a fourth hit, Krow gets defeated. Diddy and Dixie are awarded a Kremkoin for defeating it, and they then head off to Krem Cauldron.

  • In Donkey Kong Country 2, two Banana Coins can be found above the nest. The Kongs can get them by using Team-Up to get on to the nest. Similarly, two Banana Coins are also in Kleever's Kiln in this game.
