Very Gnawty is a large Gnawty and the first boss of Donkey Kong Country. It is similar to another large Gnawty in the game, named Really Gnawty.

Description[edit]

Donkey Kong jumps above Very Gnawty.

Very Gnawty has black-patterned green fur and pink hands, ears and webbed feet. It has three fingers on each hand. Very Gnawty also has an orange belly and tail, and only two buckteeth for teeth. Later in the Game Boy Advance release, Very Gnawty's fur was recolored red (the initial fur color of Really Gnawty's), while Really Gnawty's fur was recolored to sky blue. Both beavers' heights changed: they were initially a few inches taller than Donkey Kong but then became nearly twice Diddy Kong's size.

Very Gnawty's name is a pun on "very naughty"; the "gnaw" prefix of its name is based on beavers' extraordinary chewing ability. Despite that, Very Gnawty (or any other Gnawty) does not chew or bite.

Appearances in video games[edit]

Donkey Kong Country[edit]

Very Gnawty is the first boss in the game. It is located at the end of Kongo Jungle, in "Very Gnawty's Lair".

Upon entering the lair, a DK Barrel is first broken, in case a Kong is missing. Very Gnawty constantly makes small hops around the arena. To injure it, the lead Kong must jump on its head. When hit, Very Gnawty pants, faces the screen, and laughs in a goofy fashion (it momentarily highlights red when hit in the Game Boy Advance re-release, just like the other bosses). It jumps farther each time it is jumped on. Very Gnawty is defeated when jumped onto five times. For this, DK and Diddy receive their first Giant Banana and continue to Monkey Mines.

After Really Gnawty's defeat in Gorilla Glacier, Very Gnawty hides in Donkey Kong's Treehouse. If DK and Diddy enter the Treehouse, it turns at them, pants, and bounces out, scared. This event only occurs once in a game file.
