Variant of Kobble

Skiddas are purple Kremlings who appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. They are essentially a purple variant of Kobbles and are named after their action of skidding across slippery surfaces, more specifically icy ground. They are one of the few Kremlings to not have a letter "K" at the beginning of their name.

History

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

In their debut appearance, Skiddas only appear in a few snow levels; they are first encountered in Skidda's Row, as the main and titular enemy, and appear in two later levels: Tearaway Toboggan and Lemguin Lunge. Skiddas either slide across the icy ground or across the snow-capped roof of a chalet; in the latter instance, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong can avoid the Skidda by going beneath the chalet. Like Kobbles, Skiddas are vulnerable to any attack, and the Kongs can defeat them with one hit.

In Dixie Kong's Photo Album, a photograph of a Skidda appears under the Kremling Kreeps enemy class.

In the Game Boy Advance version, Skiddas and Kobbles make a whining, high-pitched noise when defeated. They also appear in more levels than Kobbles, who no longer appear in Tidal Trouble.

Donkey Kong Land III

Skiddas return in Donkey Kong Land III, where they have the same role and behavior as in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. Like the previous game, Skiddas appear in three more snow levels: Black Ice Blitz, Polar Pitfalls, and Tundra Blunda.

Skidda and Kobble share the exact same sprite when defeated. In the Game Boy version, Skiddas and Kobbles are the same color because of the Game Boy's monochromatic screen. This also occurs in the Japanese Game Boy Color port, in which both enemies have green sprites.
