Template:Species-infobox Skittlers[1] are arthropod enemies that appear in the Forest levels in Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. Skittlers resemble and behave like real world spiders, although they only have six feet instead of eight. They appear in both orange and purple varieties.

History

Donkey Kong Country Returns / Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

A purple Skittler

In Donkey Kong Country Returns, purple Skittlers rise and lower on a web thread but fall to the ground if jumped on. While on the ground, they go after Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and attempt to injure them. Some Purple Skittlers hanging directly above a pit can instantly be defeated from a jump attack instead of falling down. Orange Skittlers are more passive and slowly drop from their web regardless of the Kongs' actions. When they reach the ground, orange Skittlers proceed to crawl toward the Kongs, but continue to walk in the same direction even if the Kongs jump over them.

If the Kongs are touched by a Skittler, they lose a heart point. The Kongs cannot approach a Skittler with a Roll Attack if it hangs from a thread, though other attacks are effective against it. When on land, Skittlers can be defeated by any attack, including a roll.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Forest Folly
Multiple frozen Skittlers can be seen at the bottom of the landscape and on totems. Notice the large spider webs cladding a totem.

In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, several Skittlers can be seen in the background of the level Forest Folly, frozen in blocks of ice.
