The Lost World is accessed differently between the two games. In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong can pay 15 Kremkoins to Klubba to access a level of the Lost World in each world, starting from Crocodile Cauldron and ending with K. Rool's Keep. Since the Lost World has five levels, the Kongs must pay 75 Kremkoins in total to access the entire Lost World. In Donkey Kong Land 2, the entire Lost World is instead by paying 47 Kremkoins altogether at the only Klubba's Kiosk in the world map.

The Lost World is the name of a secret area of Crocodile Isle in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2.
In the ending of both Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, K. Rool gets launched into the energy flow of Krocodile Kore. He blocks the flow of energy, causing it to build up and eventually explode Krocodile Kore. Diddy and Dixie escape from the Lost World before it and Crocodile Isle sink underwater.

While travelling through Crocodile Cauldron (and in every world afterwards, except The Flying Krock), Diddy and Dixie Kong encounter a large burly Kremling named Klubba at his Kiosks. Klubba had been ordered by Kaptain K. Rool to guard the many entrances of the Lost World and to not let anyone pass. However, Klubba will let the Kongs pass for a price of 15 Kremkoins per entrance. In order to unlock all five of the Lost World's entrances, the Kongs have to collect all seventy-five Kremkoins scattered about the game's levels.

The Lost World itself is located inside Crocodile Isle and is fairly large in size. The area also has a varying climate, some portions of it being jungle, others being volcanic and some frozen caverns. In the center of the lake in the Lost World is a temple-like structure built into an volcano called Krocodile Kore, which happens to resemble a Kremling's head. The volcano is home to the energy generator which pumps out an upward stream of purple, white and blue energy which somehow powers Crocodile Isle.

It is here in this ancient palace that Diddy and Dixie Kong battle K. Rool, and after defeating K. Rool, he is flung into the energy flow of Krocodile Kore. K. Rool's bulk ends up blocking the volcano's flow of energy, which subsequently built up. Eventually, the Krocodile Kore explodes due to excess energy build up; this explosion blows off the top of the island and sinks the rest of it.
