Quawks and Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast.

Template:Character-infobox Quawks the Parrot is an Animal Buddy in the Donkey Kong series who first appeared in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble.

History

Donkey Kong series

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble

Quawks debuts in this game and, unlike Squawks, he does not have the ability to spit eggs at enemies; instead, he picks up barrels with his claws and drops them on the ground to hit enemies. Like all animal buddies, Quawks is only playable until he reaches a No Animal Sign, or in this case, a "No Quawks Sign".

Levels:

Donkey Kong 64

In Donkey Kong 64, purple parrots similar in appearance to Quawks appear as background characters in some of the game's cutscenes, along with green parrots.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

Quawks makes a surprise appearance as an item in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast(along with Squawks), where he acts similar to the Spiny Shell from the Mario Kart series; when obtained, he can be used to knock the racer who is in first place.

Origin/History of English Name

Quawks' English name was unofficially "Squeaks" for over a decade due to popular fanon created by the website Donkey Kong Universe for the then-unnamed character; the name "Squeaks" was based on a question in Swanky Kong's Swanky's Bonus Bonanza trivia game from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, where one question asked: "What is the name of your parrot buddy?". The possible answers were: "Squawks", "Flapper", and "Squeaks"; from that, "Squeaks" was attributed to the then-unnamed purple parrot while "Flapper" was used to designate the then-unnamed blue parrot. He was previously introduced as "Quawks" in Japanese materials(the latest being for the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3[1]), and was officially given this name in English in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast.
