Riverside Race is the seventh level in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and the second level of Kremwood Forest. As the name suggests, Riverside Race takes place at a river. It is the only level with a timer at the bottom-right screen, keeping track of how long it takes for Dixie and Kiddy to complete the level, more specifically under Brash's record of 1 minute 15 seconds. Though beating Brash's time is not a requirement for finishing the level, if the Kongs set a new record and then visit Brash, he throws a tantrum from losing and causes a tremor that causes a log to fall in the river, where it acts as a bridge to the secret cave. Aside from featuring a timer, Riverside Race also has invincible killer bees that chase the Kongs throughout the level, and Kocos are the only underwater enemy in the level. Kiddy can bounce on the water to reach higher areas, which is required to reach the Koin and the two Bonus Barrels.

The Kongs begin the level on a pathway positioned under a DK Barrel and a trail of bananas. Once the Kongs pass the bananas, a swarm of Buzzes begins to chase them down the area, where they can find a Banana Bunch and a pair of Sneeks. Soon, they come up to a banana trail that leads them into an area of water full of bananas. The Buzzes continue to chase them as they exit the water, which is followed by a pathway supporting a Re-Koil, who bounces near the letter K. After the Kongs drop down to a ledge, they come up to a Sneek and another water area that contains a Koco and an underwater passage leading through a large structure that blocks the Kongs' path. Kiddy Kong can use his abilities to reach the top of the structure, where a Bonus Barrel is located. (Alternatively, if the player has both Kongs, jumping into the killer bees will give the player more vertical distance and thus be able to make the jump.) The underwater passage is full of bananas and a Banana Bunch, and once they pass these items and exit the passage, they find their way back onto land, where the letter O is located. If they continue down the pathway, they reach a raised piece of ground with Re-Koils around it. A water area follows the second Re-Koil, and in this water, the Kongs can find another Koco and an underwater passage that leads through a large piece of land that blocks the Kongs' path. The Star Barrel is in this passage near some trails of bananas.

Exclusive to this  riverside level, there is a timer in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If the Kongs can beat Brash's record (1:15:00) to the goal, then pay him a visit, he'll throw a tantrum which will open the path to a Banana Bird Cave. If the Kongs are unable to beat Brash's record, they can still continue. They'll probably need to play through this level more than once if they want to beat the record, find both Bonus Levels, and beat Koin. There is a swarm of bees found only in this level that will pursue the Kongs while they are above water. The bees are unbeatable, so the Kongs must avoid them. Re-Koils, Sneeks, Kocos, Knick-Knacks and Buzzes are also enemies here.
After the Kongs reach the other side of the passage, they can find another DK Barrel surrounded by bananas in a wider underwater area. To the right of here, they find dry land with a few Knik-Knaks to the left of it. The Kongs can jump on them to reach a high ledge with a red Extra Life Balloon on it. If the primates journey east from the Knik-Knaks, they come along a pathway that leads to another area of water. As they head towards the liquid, the killer bees chases them past a pair of Re-Koils. In the water, they can find a Koco and some bananas. A small section of dry, solid land is ahead of the water that the Kongs must head down to reach a larger section of water with three red Buzzes flying over it. With the use of a nearby Invincibility Barrel, they can bounce on these foes to reach an area on top of a large area of dry land that can lead them to a Bonus Barrel. (Alternatively, if the player has both Kongs, jumping into the rightmost Buzz will give the player more vertical distance and thus be able to make the jump.)

Level Layout
This area of land cannot be passed unless the Kongs climb over it or unless they head through the underwater passage at the bottom of it. The passage is located next to a Koco and a trail of bananas, and it leads into another wide area of water with a wall of three Kocos in it. On the other side of the Kocos, they can find a section of solid ground above the water. As they travel along the pathway, they come past a few raised pieces of ground with Re-Koils on them. Soon, they reach another underwater area that they can swim into to find a passage leading through a large structure that blocks their path. The letter G is in the center of the passage, which they can find another wide section of water after. They can find a Koco in this water, and to the right of it, they can discover an area of land. Kiddy Kong can use his water-bouncing abilities to reach a hidden ledge to the top-left of here, which holds a Koin. (Again, if the player has both Kongs, jumping into the killer bees will give the player more vertical distance and thus be able to make the jump.) They head down a solid pathway with a trio of Sneeks and some bananas on it. As they race past the foes, swarms of Buzzes chase them, until they reach the Level Flag.
At the beginning of the level, the heroes should travel down a flat pathway. The pathway is mostly free of enemies, though the monkeys will be greeted by a swarm of Buzzes on the way. Running from the small pests, the apes should race across a small lake and head back on land to find the letter K high in the air. Bouncing on a Re-Koil can lead the monkeys to the letter. Moving on, they will tread into another body of water and make their way through a narrow opening. Swimming through the damp area below land, they will soon reach the surface of the water and find the letter O. Running down a long pathway, another group of small Buzzes will begin to chase them. The Kongs will have to race past the Re-Koils in the area to leave the Buzzes in the dust. Eventually, the apes will head into another lake and swim through a narrow passageway to find the Star Barrel.
br

About halfway into the level, the monkeys will find their way out of the water, only to be chased by a third Buzz Swarm. They should run through the area, passing a few Re-Koils, until they reach another body of water. They will have to quickly paddle through the water to dodge the Buzz Swarm, and then travel down another pathway to find the letter N, as well as an area of water. Swimming through the water under the letter N, the group will squeeze through another narrow passageway and make their way to the surface of the water, where they will hop over a wall of three Kocos. Once they get out of the water, Kiddy and Dixie will head down a bumpy pathway to reach the final pool of water. Moving through a small trench in the water, they will grab the letter G and soon find the way back on solid ground. There, they should run away from more Buzz Swarms until they find a flagpole. If the raise its flag, the level will end.

Bonus Levels
The following items and objects appear in the following quantities:
*At the second lake, Kiddy Kong should take the lead and roll onto the surface of the water. Hitting the Y button (or the A button for the remake), the toddler will bounce off of the surface and shoot into the air. Still airborne, the monkey should bounce again and land on an area of land. Nearby, the two heroes will find a Bonus Barrel, which they should jump in to begin a Bonus Level. There, they will collect several green bananas in a pool of water while dodging a lone Koco. Once enough bananas are collected, a Bonus Coin will appear to the right.
<gallery>
*After the letter N, the heroes will find three red Buzzes hovering over a body of water. The Kongs should swim underwater at that point to find an Invincibility Barrel, which will grant them temporary invincibility. With this limited power, they will need to head back to the surface and bounce on the three Buzzes to reach a ledge. Walking down a flat pathway, they will find a Bonus Barrel. It will, as usual, take them to a Bonus Level, where they will travel through the area, defeating four Re-Koils. Once all the enemies are beat, a Bonus Coin will appear at the end if the stage.

*After the letter G, the apes should head to the surface of the lake and step onto the end of the solid platform to the right. Before a Buzz Swarm attacks, Kiddy should take the lead again and roll over to the water on the left. Just as he did while finding the first Bonus Level, he will need to bounce on the surface of the water and hop to a ledge. There, he and Dixie will find a Koin, near a Steel Barrel. The enemy will have the DK Coin, and will not give it up without a fight. Unfortunately, the Kongs' attacks will be useless against the Koin, however, they can instead take the Steel Barrel nearby and throw it above the foe. Standing to the right of the Koin, the barrel will bounce off of a wall and hit the Kremling. This will defeat the enemy, thus giving the monkeys the DK Coin.

Riverside Race has two Bonus Levels, listed by type:
*Grab 15 Bananas!: At the second lake, Kiddy must take the lead and bounce on the water to go up to a higher area. (Alternatively, if the player has both Kongs, jumping into the killer bees gives the Kongs more vertical distance and thus be able to make the jump.) By bouncing on the water a second time, Kiddy gets enough vertical distance to land on the area above. The Kongs can find the Bonus Barrel nearby. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 30 seconds to collect 15 green bananas that appear both above and within the river. A green Koco is in the center of the area, and the green bananas each randomly spawn to the left or right of it. When the Kongs collect all the bananas, a Bonus Coin appears to the right.
*Bash the Baddies!: After the letter N, the Kongs find three red Buzzes hovering over a body of water. They must swim underwater to the bottom left to activate a hidden Invincibility Barrel. They must then return to the surface and then bounce on three red Buzzes to reach a ledge. (Alternatively, if the player has both Kongs, jumping into the rightmost Buzz will give the player more vertical distance and thus be able to make the jump.) The Kongs must go down a flat pathway and enter a Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 15 seconds to go through the area and defeat four Re-Koils. After the Kongs defeat the enemies, the Bonus Coin appears at the end to the right.

Warp Barrel
Right before the first body of water, Kiddy must perform a team up throw for Dixie to enter an invisible Warp Barrel over the middle of the body of water. The Kongs are warped to the area right before the Level Flag. If the Kongs complete the level with the Warp Barrel, the timer reaches the maximum time of 9:59, penalizing the Kongs. This penalty was removed from the Game Boy Advance remake.

Brash, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

After the letter G, the Kongs must swim to the surface of the river and step onto the end of the solid platform to the right. Before the killer bees attacks, Kiddy should take the lead again and roll over the water towards the left. (Alternatively, if the player has both Kongs, jumping into the killer bees will give the player more vertical distance and thus be able to make the jump.) There, he and Dixie can find a Koin, who stands near a Steel Keg. The Kongs can take the nearby Steel Keg and throw it above the Koin, causing it to rebound off a wall and hit the Koin from behind. The Kongs obtain the DK Coin.

Bonus Levels[edit]

Riverside Race Second bonus area in Riverside Race
The first and second Bonus Levels respectively

Riverside Race has two Bonus Levels, listed by type:

 • Grab 15 Bananas!: At the second lake, Kiddy must take the lead and bounce on the water to go up to a higher area.
 • Bash the Baddies!: After the letter N, the Kongs find three red Buzzes hovering over a body of water.

Warp Barrel[edit]

Right before the first body of water, Kiddy must perform a team up throw for Dixie to enter an invisible Warp Barrel over the middle of the body of water. The Kongs are warped to the area right before the Level Flag. If the Kongs complete the level with the Warp Barrel, the timer reaches the maximum time of 9:59, penalizing the Kongs. This penalty was removed from the Game Boy Advance remake.
