The Map Key is a special golden key uses in Donkey Kong Country Returns. As one level of each eight worlds of the game contain a locked path shown on the map screen, a Map key is require to unlock the locked path for the level to be accessible for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong after they completing the previous one.
A Map key can be purchase at Cranky Kong's Shop in each world for twenty Banana Coins. Once brought and exiting the shop, the key will immediately unlock the locked path for that the Kongs aren't able to access after finishing the previous level on the World's map screen. Unlocking the path can also provide a shortcut leading to the following level and the world's boss without completing all the levels of each world.
