Lockjaws are found in almost all underwater levels of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. If Diddy Kong or Dixie Kong swim too close to a Lockjaw, the fish clamps its jaws for a few seconds and then lunge at the Kongs, trying to take a bite out of them. Lockjaws can only be defeated with help from Enguarde the Swordfish. They start out attacking slow on the early levels, but they'll attack at a faster speed as the player advances through the game.

History

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

In their debut appearance, Lockjaws appear in most underwater levels. When Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong approach a Lockjaw, it clamps its jaws and then lunges at the lead Kong in an attempt to bite them. Lockjaws can only be defeated by Enguarde the Swordfish by stabbing them. The Lockjaws in the later levels often move faster than in earlier levels.

Donkey Kong Land 2

Lockjaws also appear in Donkey Kong Land 2, behaving identically as in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. A Lockjaw is also shown on the game cover, trailing after Diddy and Dixie.

DK: King of Swing / DK: Jungle Climber

A Lockjaw charging at Donkey Kong in Lockjaw Falls

Lockjaws reappear in DK: King of Swing, mainly within the Aqua World, and they first appear in the level Risky Reef. Lockjaws attempt to charge at Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong and bite them, and the Kongs can defeat a Lockjaw by using a charged attack. Lockjaws are the main and titular feature of Lockjaw Falls, where they jump out from the waterfalls and attempt to hit Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong. Lockjaws also appear in the sequel, DK: Jungle Climber.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

Lockjaws also appear in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast as rare enemies only found on DK Jungle Falls and DK Jungle Sunset. Here they attack players by jumping out of the water and attempt to bite them. There are also electrified variants of Lockjaws. Both of them can be defeated in one hit, though the electrified Lockjaw will also significantly slow down a player unless that player was invincible.
