“Scaly, slithering snakes that like to live in oil drums.”
Donkey Kong Country manual, page 29

Slippas[1] are a fairly common type of snake that is orange with black stripes. Their coloring resembles the coral snake, a venomous serpent found in several parts of the Earth.

History

Donkey Kong Country

The first appearance of Slippas is in Donkey Kong Country where they, along with Gnawtys and Zingers are one of the most common enemies. They appear most in cave levels, and can easily be defeated by being jumped on. If a Kong touches them, without rolling or jumping, however, the monkeys will be damaged. The boss, Dumb Drum, also attacks the Kongs with Slippas, who will slither around and attack.

Slippas also appear in Donkey Kong Country's remake on Game Boy Advance, where they play the exact same role.

Donkey Kong Country novel

A single Slippa appears as a minor antagonist in the Donkey Kong Country novel. As the Kongs explore the Abandoned Mines, Slippa and Army ambush the group. Slippa proclaims that "thessse minesss are oursss" and attempts to attack Diddy, but Diddy stomps him with a double jump. Slippa then escape back into the darkness.

Slippas later appear in the Game Boy game, Donkey Kong Land, where they are much more common than in the game's SNES counterpart. They are essentially the same enemies as they are in Donkey Kong Country. Slippas are mostly found in mines, caves and occasionally factories.

Characteristics

Like most enemies, Slippas attempt to attack Donkey or Diddy by charging into them. However, the Kongs can jump on or roll over a Slippa to defeat it. Sometimes Oil Drums and other types of barrels will continually spawn an endless number of Slippas until destroyed.
