History
Donkey Kong Country series
Chompses first appear in Donkey Kong Country, found in Coral Capers, Clam City, and Croctopus Chase.
Chompses return in Donkey Kong Land, although now they borrow the appearance of Chomps Jr. This is suggested by an official Donkey Kong Land guide book published in Japan, which presents the regular Chomps as an enemy in the game. Here, they roam the submerged world of Kremlantis, being found in Kremlantis Kaos, Chomp's Coliseum, and Nautilus Chase.
Although Chomps don't appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest, the ending for the original game features similar creatures attempting to eat Kaptain K. Rool.
Donkey Kong Country (comic)
In the Club Nintendo comic adaptation of Donkey Kong Country, two Chompses try to attack Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. They are supposedly a part of the "Chomp Police". This seems to be a self-promoted position, given that the other underwater creatures dislike them.
Donkey Kong Racing
Several Chompses are seen in the trailer for Donkey Kong Racing in the background of the logo and underwater when Tiny Kong and Diddy Kong are riding on a regular Enguarde and a purple Enguarde. It is possible that Chompses were going to be one of the rideable creatures in this game seeing as another enemy species, Zingers, were seen to be rideable.
Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
In Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Chompses once again appear as enemies that are only found in the underwater sections of Salty Sea, Shimmering Sea, and Open Ocean. In this game, they are much bigger and look more intimidating than before, but they can still be defeated in one hit. Electrified Chompses are also found on Open Ocean. Like normal Chompses, they can be defeated in one hit, but the Chompses will also electrocute a racer and make them lose their speed, unless the racer attacked it while invincible.
