Template:Level Topsail Trouble is the fifth level of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, as well as the fifth level located on the Gangplank Galleon.

Unlike the previous rigging level, Mainbrace Mayhem, this level takes places during a storm, where Rattly the Rattlesnake makes his debut, able to be found in an Animal Crate in the beginning of the level. Rattly's jumping ability proves useful to Diddy and Dixie Kong as they make their way upwards through the level, as most platforms that they must jump to in the first half of the level are higher than usual. If they do not have Rattly, they have to rely on hooks between the platforms to climb. In the second half of the level, the heroes find a large area of ropes that they must climb while dodging enemies. The enemies they meet in this level include Flitters, in their first appearance, Neeks, Kaboings, Click-Clacks, Klingers, Zingers, Krunchas and Klomps.

The Kongs begin the level on a short yard next to an Animal Crate that contains Rattly. Two rows of bananas are above the heroes in this area. If they travel ahead from here, they reach a longer yard with a pair of Neeks and a Kaboing on it. The letter K hovers above the yard, which is followed by another yard that is connected to a large mast with some platforms on it that the heroes can use to climb. If they do not have Rattly to help them head up the platforms, they can instead use a hook between the structures on the mast. Once the primates reach the second level of yards, they can find a higher part of the previous mast with a red Extra Life Balloon above it. A DK Barrel also sits on the first yard in this area, which also holds a Click-Clack. There are two smaller yards ahead of here that are both tilted and hold a Click-Clack. The Kongs can find a mast sticking out from behind the last of these yards that holds a few round structures. They can use the platforms on the masts and a hook to climb to the third level of yards, where there is a small, tilted yard that is held by a mast with a Bonus Barrel above it.

The primates can find three leveled yards ahead of here, and the first two of them hold Kaboings. The last of the yards is held under a DK Barrel, which a hook can be found next to. Another hook is after this yard with a group of bananas under it that form the letter R. A large mast with some wooden platforms on it is behind the hook and the bananas, and they can use it to climb to the next level of yards. When they reach the first yard, they can find the letter O above them. A hook is next to it, along with a strong mast with a platform on it that supports a treasure chest, which contains a red Extra Life Balloon. The heroes can find an additional structure above them on the mast that they can reach with either a nearby hook or Rattly. If they head west from the platform, they come up to a small yard with a Kruncha on it and then a platform on a mast, which is located under an Auto Fire Barrel. This barrel can blast them onto a higher yard with a crate and a No Animal Sign on it, which makes Rattly disappear when it is passed. The Kongs also earn a Banana Coin if they lead Rattly to this sign. Just before the sign, they can find a platform on the top of a mast, which is structured under another Banana Coin. If the two friends continue from here, they soon reach a Star Barrel.

Diddy hangs onto some ropes under a DK Barrel.

A long set of ropes with a Zinger and a Banana Bunch at the beginning of it is located after the yard found under the Star Barrel. As the heroes head to the east with these ropes, they come under a few bananas with a DK Barrel among them. Some more ropes that can be climbed to travel upwards are ahead of here, and the first Klinger in the level climbs along them. A rope leading to the west is at the top of these ropes that is positioned slightly above a Zinger. If they pass this wasp foe, they come along a set of ropes that lead higher up. A Klinger climbs along the ropes, which is placed next to a hidden yard with a Golden Feather (exclusive to the Game Boy Advance version) and a Banana Bunch on it. The heroes can find another yard farther up at the top of the ropes. This yard holds a small crate and is structured under a Flitter with some bananas above it. Some ropes are under this yard that the Kongs can climb down to find the letter N being guarded by a Zinger. As the primates travel upwards with the ropes, they come up to a Zinger that flies close to an invisible Banana Coin and then a horizontal tightrope with another Zinger in front of it. A DK Barrel is above the Zinger, and a pair of Flitters are above the rope. The heroes can bounce on them to reach a hidden Bonus Barrel, which is positioned under a yard that Diddy and Dixie are sent too after playing in the second Bonus Level.

If the primates continue along the aforementioned tightrope, they climb towards a pair of Zingers that block their path. After they are passed, the heroes come up to some more ropes that lead upwards past a Klinger. A horizontal rope is to the left of the top of these ropes, and a Zinger flies around it. Some more ropes leading upwards are soon after the Zinger, and as they are climbed, the duo can find a yard to their right that holds the hidden DK Coin. If they continue along the ropes, they come up to a horizontal rope with three Zingers all the way across it. Once they dodge all of the foes, they can find more ropes that can help them continue upwards. Once they climb the ropes, they reach another horizontal rope that is guarded by two Zingers, one of which that is stationary. In the Game Boy Advance version of the game, a few hooks are hidden to the left of this rope that can help the heroes reach a yard positioned high in the air. It supports a lone Click-Clack, who is in possession of a photograph. If the primates pass the previously-mentioned Zingers, they reach a yard with an End of Level Target on it, which they can jump on to complete the level successfully. If they jump on the target from the nearby ropes, they can win a prize, such as the letter G. Additionally, if they head beyond the End of Level Target, they can find a crate and a blue Extra Life Balloon.

Donkey Kong Land 2

The Kongs begin the level on a yard with an Animal Barrel above it, which can turn them into Rattly if they enter it. If they head east from here, they make their way up a slanted yard with some Neeks on it. Another Neek walks on the yard ahead of here, which is partly tilted under the previous yard. A mast is behind the final yard in this area, and some wooden structures are on it that can be used to climb to the second set of yards. Some hooks are next to the structures to help the Kongs climb to them. They soon climb to a small yard with a Click-Clack and a DK Barrel on it. A pit is ahead of it that contains a Zinger, and once the heroes cross this pit, they come onto another yard with the letter K above it. A larger yard follows here, and it holds a Click-Clack and a set of ropes that hang below it. A Klinger slides along the rope, which can lead the heroes to a Banana Bunch. If they head north from here using some hooks and platforms connected to masts, they reach a slanted yard with a Neek and a DK Barrel on it. An additional platform attached to a mast is next to the yard, and they can climb on it to reach a hidden Bonus Barrel. To the east of here, they can find another mast with a platform on it.

Diddy climbs some ropes located shortly before the Star Barrel.

A Zinger flies next to the mast, and it is followed by a yard with a No Animal Sign on it. Rattly disappears when this sign is passed, and the primates are also given a Banana Coin if they lead him to this sign. If they continue east from here, they reach a set of ropes that lead to up a higher yard. To the right of these ropes, they can find another rope set that a Klinger climbs along. Bananas are also located around the ropes. The primates must travel upwards along the previous ropes to progress from here. Once they reach the next yard, they encounter a Click-Clack and a large mast that holds a wooden platform. They must use the platform to reach a horizontal tightrope, which they must climb along. As they climb, they come past a lone Zinger and then reach another mast with a platform on it. A set of ropes are to the left of this mast, and if they climb them, they can find the letter O in the air. Another set of ropes is farther to the left from here, and a Klinger climbs along them. When they reach the top of the ropes, they can find a Banana Bunch to their right and a mast with a platform on it to their left. They can use the platform to make their way onto an additional set of ropes that lead up to a yard with a Klomp and a Star Barrel on it.

At this point in the level, the Kongs can find a DK Barrel and a barrel to their right on the same yard. Another yard is ahead of here with a trio of Neeks on it. The slanted yard leads them up to a horizontal tightrope with an Invincibility Barrel to the far left of it. To the right of the rope, the primates can find a large group of ropes that are covered in Klingers and bananas. A Banana Coin is also near the bottom of the ropes. Once the duo climbs these ropes, they reach a long, horizontal tightrope with four Zingers along it. The tightrope leads to a larger group of ropes with some more Klingers on them. When they reach the rope of the ropes, they can find another horizontal tightrope to their right with a few Zingers in front of it. As the primates climb across it, they come under the letter N and then make their way to another large set of ropes with a Klinger on it. A mast with a platform on it is to the right of these ropes, and they can use the platform to reach a yard with a Kaboing and a DK Barrel in it. A yard with a treasure chest containing an Extra Life Balloon is on a yard above here.

This yard also supports a Kaboing, as does the following yard, which additionally carries a Click-Clack. If the primates journey to the left edge of this yard, they can find a DK Coin and a Banana Bunch floating high in the air above a pit. A slanted yard is located near here with some Flitters flying around it. The two friends can find a large set of ropes on the end of this yard, and as they climb these ropes, they encounter a few Klingers and a Banana Coin that is located in the top-right part of the area. A straight, horizontal tightrope is to the left of the coin, and a Flitter and some Zingers fly around it. The letter G is also put in view under them as they climb along the rope, and if they drop down to it they are caught by a sturdy platform connected to a mast. After passing the final Zinger in this area, the Kongs approach a hidden yard with an Extra Life Balloon next to it and a Barrel Cannon that they can drop into in order to be blasted to some more Barrel Cannons that can lead them onto a yard with a spring on it. If they bounce on the spring, they complete the level. A Banana Bunch is located in the air to the right of the spring.

Donkey Kong Country 2

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: The letter K floats high in the air above the second yard in the level.
  • O: The Kongs can find the letter O above a small yard located shortly after the second DK Barrel in the level.
  • N: Shortly after the heroes pass the second Klinger in the level, they reach a mast with a Flitter above it. If they climb onto the ropes under this yard and travel downwards on them, they reach the letter N, which is guarded by a Zinger.
  • G: The letter G is one of the prizes that can be won at the End of Level Target. They must jump on the target from the nearest rope to win a prize.

Bonus Levels

File:TopsailTrouble265.PNG
The Kongs defeat Flitters in the second Bonus Level.
  • The Kongs must ride Rattly to the beginning of the third level of yards in the stage to find a wooden platform attached to a mast to their right. If they jump to the top of the platform, they can use Rattly's jumping abilities reach a Bonus Barrel. It leads to a Bonus Level, where the three animals must defeat a line of six Flitters that fly in the air within the time limit of 15 seconds. If they are all defeated within this limit, a Kremkoin appears on a mast at the end of the area to grab with the remaining time.
  • The next Bonus Level is near the end of the level. On the ropes, the Kongs should eventually see two Flitters in the air, as well as a Zinger in their path. Right in between the Flitters and the Zinger, the Kongs need to jump up to reveal a hidden hook. They can jump off of this hook and onto the two Flitters next to them to be able to bounce into a Bonus Barrel located high in the air. It leads the heroes into a Bonus Level, where they must climb up a large set of ropes while dodging Flitters to reach the top of the area, where a Kremkoin is located. If they manage to grab the coin within 15 seconds, they complete the Bonus Level successfully.

DK Coin

  • Shortly after the Kongs pass the third Klinger in the level, they come up to a line of three Zingers that fly in their path. If they head to the right from here and jump from the end of the ropes, they can reach a hidden yard with the DK Coin above it.

Warp Barrel

  • When the Kongs reach the second yard in the level, they should roll-jump to the right under the first yard to reach the location of an invisible Warp Barrel, which does not appear until they access it. The barrel sends them into a Bonus Level, where they can find a group of bananas that form the shape of an exclamation mark on a long yard that is supported by a ship mast. If they head to the right end of this area, they are lead back into the main level onto some ropes that are located immediately before the End of Level Target.

Golden Feather (Game Boy Advance version only)

  • Once the Kongs pass the second Klinger the in the level, they should jump to a hidden yard to the right to find a Golden Feather on it, along with a Banana Bunch.

Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only)

  • When the Kongs meet the final two Zingers in the level, they should climb to the left-end of the rope and jump into mid-air to find two hidden hooks. The heroes must hop upwards from the hooks to reach a yard that holds a Click-Clack, who is in possession of a photograph. If they defeat the foe, they are given a picture of a Click-Clack for the first page of their scrapbook.

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: The letter K is located above the yard that is located after the first Zinger in the level.
  • O: The letter O is placed above a set of ropes found shortly before the Star Barrel.
  • N: The heroes can find the letter N above them as they climb along the final tightrope before the second DK Barrel from the Star Barrel.
  • G: The primates can find the letter G above a platform as they climb along the final tightrope in the level.

Bonus Levels

Diddy throws a kannonball at a Klinger in the second Bonus Level.
  • The first Bonus Level is different from other bonuses in Donkey Kong Land 2, as it does not grant the Kongs with a Kremkoin, but instead with an easy trip to the end of the level. Therefore, its discovery is not required to complete the game 100%. To find it, the Kongs must make their way past the first Zinger in the level to land on a yard located after it. After they jump to the smaller yard following this, the heroes should drop down from the right edge of the yard to fall towards a group of bananas that surround a hidden Bonus Barrel. If they fall into the area between the bananas, they land the Bonus Barrel, which can send them into a Bonus Level. Here, they can find a No Animal Sign on a long yard with a group of bananas above it that form the shape of an arrow pointing to the exit of the bonus. If they travel to the exit, they are taken back into the main level next to a spring that they can bounce on the complete the level.
  • Shortly before reaching the DK Barrel, the heroes come up to a wooden structure that is attached to a mast. Once they jump to this platform, they can find a Bonus Barrel to the left of them that they must jump into in order to access the second Bonus Level, where they must use kannonballs to defeat Klingers that climb along a large set of ropes. They can only reach the Klingers if they climb on the structures on the masts that are located around the ropes. If all of the Klingers are defeated within 30 seconds, a Kremkoin appears for the heroes to claim within the remaining time.

DK Coin

  • If the primates climb to the yard above the one that holds the fourth DK Barrel and then travel west, they soon reach the end of the final yard in the area. They can find a Banana Bunch in the air ahead of this yard, as well as a DK Coin that they must jump to in order to reach.
