Template:Level Barrel Bayou is the eleventh level of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. It is the first area of Krem Quay in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, and the sixth level of Krem Cauldron in Donkey Kong Land 2.

In this level, the first bayou level of the game, the Diddy and Dixie Kong must make their way through with the use of Rotatable Barrels, which can shoot them in any direction they want. However, in Donkey Kong Country 2, time limits are displayed on the Rotatable Barrels, and once they reach zero, the barrels automatically fire the Kongs, no matter where they are aiming. Rambi the Rhinoceros can be found in this stage as well, but he can be used up until the point that the heroes cross the No Animal Sign in the level. Additionally, in Donkey Kong Land 2, Squitter the Spider appears in this level, but only in a Bonus Level. Kloaks also make their debut here in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System sequel, appearing alongside Klomps, Klobbers, Neeks, Zingers, Click-Clacks, and Flitters.

The music for this and all the other swamp levels in the games are titled "Bayou Boogie".

Diddy and Dixie approach the first Rotatable Barrel in the level.

The level begins on a grassy platform with a barrel on it. Ahead, the Kongs can find a trio of Neeks and then a lone Rotatable Barrel with the letter K above it. Some bananas are also to the left and right of the Rotatable Barrel, which only has five seconds set on it. After the primates stay in the barrel past this time limit, it automatically shoots them out of it. A Klomp is nearby, followed by a small area of water with a lily pad holding a DK Barrel floating on it. A Flitter also flies at the end of the water area, and once they cross this water, they make their way down a long platform with a crate-throwing Kloak above it. The Kloak also throws a Banana Bunch if the Kongs wait near it for a while. There is another area of water ahead of here, and it can be crossed with either a group of Rotatable Barrels, each with three to five seconds set on them, or with a Krochead sticking its head out of the liquid. If they use the Krochead to cross, they come up to a small platform in the water, which holds an Animal Crate with Rambi in it. Additionally, in the Game Boy Advance version of the game, the heroes collect a photograph if they grab the banana above this Krochead's head.

A Rotatable Barrel with three seconds on it is to the right of Rambi's Animal Crate, and it can shoot the heroes into a trail of bananas and onto a platform on the other side of the water. The Kongs can find a Zinger on the edge of this platform. A Kloak is near here, and it throws a Zinger onto the platform and then hovers off-screen. If the primates continue, they come up to an additional Zinger that guards a quadruplet of bananas, and then reach a Klobber. A DK Barrel is ahead of here, but before the heroes reach it, they must pass a pair of Kloaks that throw crates at them. After they pass the DK Barrel, they encounter a Zinger that flies over the letter O, which is located above a large pool of water. The group can find a long set of Rotatable Barrels ahead of here, each with only two seconds set on them. As they shoot across the area with these barrels, they come up to a Golden Feather, found only in the Game Boy Advance version of the game. The final barrel can either shoot them onto a long, nearby platform, or into a Zinger guarding a Banana Coin. If they shoot to this Zinger with Rambi, the Animal Buddy can slam through the Zinger and safely grab the coin. The heroes land on the platform after shooting to this Zinger, and if they travel forward, they make their way to a second Klobber and a Kloak. The Kloak throws a Banana Bunch and then a Zinger, which lands in front of the Banana Bunch. An area of water is ahead of here, but the group can cross it with the use of three Rotatable Barrels. The first two barrels, both with three to five seconds on them, constantly move up and down, while the last one, with only two seconds set on it, is stationary and placed above a small platform with the level's Star Barrel on it.

At this point, the heroes can find a Zinger floating above the water to the right of them. A half-sunken barrel and a lily pad holding a Kannon float on top of the water, and they can be used as platforms in order to reach a platform suspended over the liquid. Two groups of three Neeks walk down the platform, which also holds two Zingers that the heroes must jump over. After they pass the second Zinger, they reach a No Animal Sign. If they reach this sign with Rambi, the Animal Buddy disappears and the Kongs are given a DK Coin. An arrow pointing to the west formed by bananas is nearby, being followed by a Kloak that throws some barrels at the primates. If they wait long enough near this floating enemy, the foe heads to the left to the edge of the platform and throws a treasure chest that contains a kannonball. A DK Barrel shakes in the air to the right of the Kloak, and if they travel past it, they find another water area with a pair of Auto Fire Barrels above it. The barrels are placed nearly back-to-back, but are not facing each other. However, they can still be used to cross: If the primates shift to the right after shooting out of the first barrel, they head along a trail of bananas and then into the neighboring barrel, which then fires them to the other side of the water.

The Kongs fire over the water with some Auto Fire Barrels.

Here, they can find two Kloaks that both throw Click-Clacks. One of these enemies guards the letter N. After the Kloaks throw a few Click-Clacks, they fly away, leaving the letter N open to the Kongs. Another area of water is ahead, and a Zinger floats above the beginning of it. After they jump over this foe, they land in an Auto Fire Barrel that is placed across from another Auto Fire Barrel in a mirrored position. As before, they must shift to the right after firing out of the first of the barrels to land in the second, which then shoots them to the next pair of Auto Fire Barrels. These barrels are positioned in the same way as the previous and must therefore be used in the same way. After they shoot out of the second of these two Auto Fire Barrels, they land in a lone Auto Fire Barrel that is aimed in the opposite direction that they want to go. By shifting to the right after shooting out of the barrel, the heroes can head in the correct direction and land on a solid area of ground. As they shoot out of the barrel, they also hit into a DK Barrel.

Ahead of here, the primates can find two Kobbles and a small pit of water with a lily pad holding a Banana Coin on top of it. A Zinger hovers up and down above it as well, but once the foe hovers upwards, the heroes can drop onto the lily pad and grab the Banana Coin. On the other side of this small water area, the duo encounters a Kloak that throws a few barrels and a Zinger. An additional water area follows the Kloak, who leaves the area after throwing the Zinger. As the heroes cross the water, they come up to a Banana Bunch and a half-sunken barrel that they must use as a platform. The barrel can help them reach another raised piece of ground, which is immediately followed by a water area with an Auto Fire Barrel hovering across it. Many bananas and the letter G float above this Auto Fire Barrel, which must be used to cross. The barrel is positioned so that it only shoots the Kongs upwards. Therefore, as the device shifts over the liquid, the heroes must move with it and constantly try to land back in the barrel.

Soon, they make their way to the other side of the water, where they can find a large platform lifted over the water. A Bonus Barrel is above this piece of land, along with a Kloak, who throws a few barrels and a Zinger at the heroes. After it throws the Zinger, it flies upwards into an area that cannot be accessed. The Kongs can find one last area of water near here, and they can cross it with the use of a barrel floating in it. Once they cross the water, they land in an area with a few Rotatable Barrels, the first two with one second set on them, and the last barrel with five seconds set on it. They can use these barrels to shoot to the End of Level Target found nearby. If they hit this target, they complete the level, but if they hit it immediately after shooting out of the last Rotatable Barrel, they complete the level and win a prize, such as a red Extra Life Balloon. A Zinger hovers around the last Rotatable Barrel, so the heroes must watch for it as they shoot to the End of Level Target.

Diddy Kong crosses a water area.

The level begins on a long, flat platform suspended above that water that holds a single Neek. Behind the place that the Kongs stand at the beginning of the level, there is a Rotatable Barrel that can be used to fire them to a hidden Bonus Barrel. Ahead of here, the heroes can find a small pit with a banana above it separating the starting platform from another platform. On the other side of the pit, they can find a Klomp and another small pit with the letter K in it. Another long platform follows here, and it holds a pair of Neeks, a Klobber, and a Klomp. A DK Barrel is also located near the beginning of it, while a Rotatable Barrel is placed near the end of it. They can control the Rotatable Barrel to shoot them to some bananas and a Banana Coin. A wide area of water is ahead of here, but a lily pad and a barrel float on the water to help the heroes cross. As they do so, a Zinger flies in their way. On the other side of the water, the primates can find a platform with a pair of Neeks, a Klomp, and a treasure chest that contains an Extra Life Balloon on it.

The Kongs can find an additional water area ahead of here. A trio of half-sunken barrels and a lily pad float on the water, and they can be used to help the heroes stay above the water. As they cross using these objects, a few Zingers fly in their way. The letter O is also present between a few of the barrels that float on the water. Instead of crossing the water with the barrels and lily pads, the primates can also cross by using a set of Rotatable Barrels and Auto Fire Barrels that float above it. Once they cross the liquid, they reach a platform that holds a Klomp, who walks under another DK Barrel. This platform is immediately followed by a water area that can only be crossed by jumping on the heads of a trio of Krocheads in the liquid. Flitters hover above or near each Krochead. After the duo makes their way over this water, they reach a long, flat platform with an Animal Barrel above it. If they enter this barrel, they turn into Rambi the Rhinoceros. Two Zingers are near here, and a Star Barrel floats between them.

File:BarrelBayou1065.png
Rambi aims a Rotatable Barrel.

Once the heroes pass the Zingers, they make their way to a water area that contains many Rotatable Barrels. These barrels must be aimed and used in order to cross the water. As they cross, they enter a barrel that can shoot them to two different paths. Both paths are nearly identical, but the lower path leads to a Zinger (who can be defeated with Rambi) and a DK Coin. Both paths also take them to the other side of the liquid, where there is a platform that holds a Klobber. Ahead of this platform, there is another water area that contains a single Krochead that the heroes can jump on to aid them in crossing. Two Zingers move in vertical paths around the Krochead. If the primates manage to cross the water, they land on a long platform with a Neek and a No Animal Sign on it. If they pass this sign with Rambi, the Animal Buddy disappears, and they are given a Banana Coin in turn. More water is near here, and two barrels float on it, one of which that holds a jumping Kaboing. On the other side of this water, the heroes can find a platform with a kannonball on it and a DK Barrel above it. This platform is immediately followed by a water area that contains two lily pads and a barrel, all of which that can be used to cross the liquid. A Zinger and a Flitter fly in their way as they advance through this area.

Once they cross the water, they reach a kannon and another No Animal Sign (which causes Squitter to disappear, if the primates had gotten him during the second Bonus Level). The letter N and some bananas are also above the sign. If the duo continues from here, they make their way over some more water with a pair of Krocheads sticking out of it. The heroes must use these creatures, along with a single lily pad floating in the water, in order to reach a platform located just ahead. As they travel over the liquid, a few Flitters fly in their way. Once they reach the platform, they can find another water area ahead of them that must be crossed with a series of Barrel Cannons and Rotatable Barrels. Many of these barrels move back and forth in a vertical path. As they move, the heroes must shoot out of them in order to travel one barrel to the next. The second of these Barrel Cannons shoots the heroes to the letter G and a Rotatable Barrel that can then fire them to another moving Barrel Cannon. This barrel can blast them into another Rotatable Barrel, which can then drop them onto a platform that is followed by one final water area. Above the water, there are a few Barrel Cannons that move from left to right and back. They must use these barrels, along with some Rotatable Barrels and a stationary Barrel Cannon, to cross the water. On the other side of the water, there is a long, flat platform that holds a spring. If they jump on this spring, the level is completed.

Secrets

Donkey Kong Country 2

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: At the beginning of the level, the heroes discover a Rotatable Barrel with the letter K above it. The barrel can be used to shoot them to the letter.
  • O: After passing the second DK Barrel in the level, the Kongs reach an area of water with the letter O, guarded by a Zinger, above the beginning of it. They can reach it safely with a super-jump, with their Team-up move, or by bouncing on the Zinger with Rambi as the insect flies over the letter.
  • N: Shortly after passing Rambi's No Animal Sign, the heroes come up to a pair of Kloaks, one of which that floats in front of the letter N. If they wait for a few seconds, the Kloak guarding the letter flies away, allowing them to safely collect the letter.
  • G: Immediately before reaching the second Bonus Barrel, the heroes find an area of water that can only be crossed with the use of an Auto Fire Barrel that moves across it. As they cross with this barrel, they come up to the letter G, which the barrel can shoot them to.

Bonus Levels

File:BarrelBayou365.png
The Kongs shoot through a Bonus Level with Rotatable Barrels.
  • Immediately after passing Rambi's No Animal Sign, the Kongs discover an arrow formed by bananas pointing to the left and a Kloak. If the primates wait for a few seconds, the Kloak begins to float to the left. They must chase the villain all the way to the end of the big platform, where it stops and throws a treasure chest that contains a kannonball. After they release the kannonball from the chest, they must pick it up and carry it to the left, where a kannon sits on a lily pad. If they insert the kannonball into the kannon, and then enter the object, they are shot to a Bonus Level with it. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs must use a kannonball to defeat two Flitters and a Zinger as the enemies fly high in the air. If they defeat all of the foes within the time limit of 15 seconds, a Kremkoin appears for them to grab within the remaining time.
  • Just before reaching the end of the level, the primates make their way onto a platform with a Bonus Barrel and the level's final Kloak floating above it. By using their Team-up move, or by bouncing on the barrels thrown by the nearby Kloak, the Kongs can make their way into the Bonus Barrel. The Bonus Barrel then sends them to a Bonus Level, where they must use many Rotatable Barrels, each with only two seconds set on them, to cross a large area of water. On the other side of the water, they can find a Kremkoin, which they must find and grab within the time limit of 20 seconds.

DK Coin

  • After the Kongs obtain Rambi, who is hidden near the beginning of the level on a small platform in the center of a water area, they must lead him to the nearest No Animal Sign. If they reach the sign with the rhino, he disappears and they are given a DK Coin as a prize.

Golden Feather (Game Boy Advance version only)

  • Almost immediately after passing the letter O, the heroes make their way through a large group of Rotatable Barrels. As they shoot barrel-to-barrel, they run into the Golden Feather.

Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only)

  • After passing the first Kloak in the level, the Kongs reach a Zinger on the edge of a platform. They must jump over it to land on a nearby Krochead sticking its head out of the water. Once they collect the banana above this creature's head, they are given a photograph of a Krochead for the seventh page of their scrapbook.

Donkey Kong Land 2

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: The letter K is in a pit located immediately before the first DK Barrel in the level. A super-jump is required to reach the letter safely.
  • O: Almost immediately before the Kongs reach the second DK Barrel in the level, they come up to a water area that they can cross with either Rotatable Barrels and Auto Fire Barrels, or with lily pads and barrels floating on the water. If they use the lily pads and barrels to cross, they come up to the letter O as the travel over the water. They can grab this item with their super-jump ability.
  • N: The Kongs fall to the letter N after completing the second Bonus Level.
  • G: The primates shoot to the letter G as they cross the second-to-last area of water in the level, which can only be crossed with the many Rotatable Barrels above it.

Bonus Levels

File:BarrelBayou465.png
Squitter travels over the water in a Bonus Level.
  • At the beginning of the level, the Kongs must travel backwards and jump into a Rotatable Barrel. With a good aim, they must tilt the barrel northwest, where a Bonus Barrel is hidden. The Bonus Barrel leads to the Bonus Level, where the heroes must defeat three Zingers with a kannonball within the time limit of 20 seconds. When they are all defeated, the Kremkoin appears in the center of the stage to grab before time runs out.
  • Near the end of the level and before the final DK Barrel in the level, a kannonball can be found sitting on a small platform. The Kongs must pick up this kannonball and carry it across some of the bayou. Eventually, they make their way to a kannon, which they must place the kannonball in. With the kannon now loaded, the Kongs can walk into it in order to be blasted to the second Bonus Level. Here, they must turn into Squitter the Spider, another Animal Buddy, who must be used cross a wide area of water with his web platforms. As the spider begins crossing the area, he finds an arrow formed by bananas pointing to the right, which is the direction he must go. If the spider manages to cross the water without running into any of the Zingers flying above it, the Kongs can grab a Kremkoin located nearby. A No Animal Sign is placed immediately before this coin, and when it is reached, Squitter turns back into the Kongs. The heroes have only 20 seconds to complete this Bonus Level.

DK Coin

  • After the Star Barrel is passed, the Kongs enter a large group of Rotatable Barrels. With Rambi, they must shoot downwards near the beginning of the area, where a trail of bananas leads. If they continue to the right with these barrels, they shoot towards a Zinger, who guards the level's DK Coin. If they have Rambi, they can defeat this foe and continue ahead to the DK Coin and then to the next Rotatable Barrel.
