Tomatoes[1] are large red enemies with sinister looking faces that appear in Donkey Kong 64. They are the only enemies in Donkey Kong 64 who are immune to the Kongs' musical instrument moves.
Several Tomatoes can be found in the area near Funky's Store in the area Fungi Forest at night. If the player's Kong comes too close to a Tomato, it will lunge at them and damage them. The Kong cannot even fight back as the attacks cannot harm Tomatoes. In order to combat Tomatoes, Chunky Kong must jump into a Hunky Chunky Barrel to become Hunky Chunky.
When Hunky Chunky approaches the Tomatoes, the Worm starts speaking to him, saying that all of its friends were eaten by the Tomatoes and that it could also be eaten unless the Tomatoes are defeated. To defeat a Tomato, Hunky Chunky must jump onto it. The Worm later rewards Chunky with a Golden Banana after he defeats the Tomatoes and relocates the Worm and its house.
