A '''Heart Boost''' is an item that appears in ''[[Donkey Kong Country Returns]]'', ''[[Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D]]'' and ''[[Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze]]''. It can be purchased from [[Cranky Kong's Shop]] for ten [[Banana Coin]]s. When [[Donkey Kong]], or alternatively in two-player mode, [[Diddy Kong]], equips a Heart Boost before entering a level, his maximum health will increase from two [[heart]]s to three for the duration of the entire stage, even if the player should lose any [[Extra Life|lives]]. When Diddy Kong is on Donkey's back, the duo will have a grand total of five hearts.

A Heart Boost is a power-up item that appears in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It adds a third heart to Donkey Kong's health for a level, or a partner Kong in two-player mode. The Heart Boost functions the same in both games and it can be bought for ten Banana Coins from Cranky Kong's Shop and Funky's Fly 'n' Buy from the respective games. Like other inventory items, it cannot be used in Mirror Mode.

Like Squawks the Parrot and Banana Juice, the Heart Boost's effect wears off if the Kongs either finish the level or quit prematurely. Its effect lasts for an entire level, even if the Kongs lose any lives. When a partner Kong is on Donkey Kong's back, the duo have a collective total of five hearts.
