Screaming Pillars are a new, unique type of enemy introduced in Donkey Kong Country Returns. They also appear in Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 in the level DK Jungle., in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in the level Scorch 'N' Torch, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the stage Jungle Hijinxs.

The Pillars normally just remain still where they are placed, taking a nap. The Pillars are simply rock pillars with facial features. When Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong walk by however, they will awake, scream, and then collapse. That is their only means of damage; if the Kongs are quiet the Pillar will not even try to attack. Upon falling, they cannot get back up. In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, there is fire on their heads while they are napping, which is transferred to the inside of their eyes and mouths when they awaken.
