A Heart Boost is a power-up item that appears in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It adds a third heart to Donkey Kong's health for a level, or a partner Kong in 2-player mode. The Heart Boost functions the same in both games and it can be bought for ten Banana Coins from Cranky Kong's Shop and Funky's Fly 'n' Buy from the respective games. Like other inventory items, it cannot be used in Mirror Mode.

Like Squawks the Parrot and Banana Juice, the Heart Boost's effect wears off if the Kongs either finish the level or quit prematurely. Its effect lasts for an entire level, even if the Kongs lose any lives. When a partner Kong is on Donkey Kong's back, the duo have a collective total of five hearts.

In Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D's New Mode, Heart Boosts had their price reduced to three Banana Coins at Cranky Kong's Shop. The Crash Guard has a similar role to the Heart Boost, except it increases the durability of Mine Carts or Rocket Barrels in a level.
