Wild Sting[citation needed], or Manta Ray,[1][2] is a flying stingray[3] and the first boss of Donkey Kong Land. His name is likely inspired by the phrase Wild Thing. Wild Sting appears in Gangplank Galleon Ahoy! in the end boss level, Wild Sting Fling. He attacks by flying back and forth across the screen, occasionally swooping down at Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong. Wild Sting can be damaged from a Kong jumping onto it as it swoops. With each hit, Wild Sting moves around faster and less predictably. It only turns around after going off-screen. Wild Sting is defeated after taking seven hits.
