Swanky's Bonus Bonanza is a quiz-show designed by Swanky Kong, exclusive to Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. It is found on every area of Crocodile Isle, except for The Flying Krock and the Lost World.

Appearances[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest[edit]

Upon entering, Swanky greets Diddy and Dixie Kong and offers the primates to play in his bonus games. A small menu appears in the bottom center of the screen, allowing the Kongs to choose which quiz they want. The prizes, price to play, and difficulty of the quiz depends on which one they chose.

If the monkeys pay for the easiest and first quiz with a single Banana Coin, they are asked three quiz questions based on which world the monkeys have reached, the game itself, and the player's general knowledge of the Donkey Kong series. They are awarded with one red balloon if all the answers are correctly answered.

If the Kongs pay two Banana Coins which is required for the second quiz, they are asked another three questions, but a little harder than the single Banana Coin quiz. They are awarded a green balloon if they complete it. The last and hardest quiz has a three coin price fee, but offers the blue balloon as the prize. All prizes emerge from the barrels in the background, which barrel depends on what difficulty of the barrel is; the "1" barrel awards the Kongs with the red balloon for finishing the first quiz, the "2" barrel gives the Kongs a green balloon, and the "3" barrel gives them a blue balloon as an award. Once all three quizzes are completed, they cannot be played again and Swanky only reminds the monkeys that they have completed the challenge.

In the Game Boy Advance remake, the title is now shortened to "Bonus Bonanza". There are a few changes, though the pricing and quiz difficulties carry on from the SNES version. When a quiz is chosen, the Kong playing enters a barrel that transports them to a stage resembling an actual quiz show's, with Swanky on a podium asking questions as he had in the SNES version. Candy Kong appears to be Swanky's assistant, though she doesn't appear to do much except for pointing at the pad that the Kongs walk on. To answer the questions, the Kong playing must select the answer, either "A", "B", or "C", by jumping on the corresponding star-shaped button on the floor. If incorrect, the Kongs fall through the star-shaped platform. When all of Swanky's challenges are completed, Swanky awards the monkeys with a scrapbook photo of himself, an addition only in the Game Boy Advance version.

Trivia[edit]

  • As a small easter egg, a Giant Banana usually won when defeating a boss in the original Donkey Kong Country appears in the background of the SNES version of Swanky's Bonanza.
  • Also in the SNES version of the Bonanza, there appear to be Extra Life Balloons in the shape of DK, not Diddy as they are in normal gameplay. This may be an easter egg or a minor mistake from the graphic designers.
