This is one of the most unique cave levels in the game, as it welcomes a new hazard, darkness. Throughout the whole level, the area will be pitch black, too dark for the Kongs to see. Luckily, the [[Animal Buddy]], Squawks the Parrot will appear with his bright torchlight to shed light around the cave. When this is done, the monkeys will be able to see some of the cave, although the areas behind and above them will remain dark, causing quite a challenge to the level. Template:DKClevelbox Torchlight Trouble is the twenty-first level of the Super Nintendo game Donkey Kong Country and twenty-second in the Game Boy Advance remake. It is also the fifth level of the Gorilla Glacier area, and sixth in the remake. It is the only level in Donkey Kong Country to feature Squawks the Parrot.

This is one of the most unique cave levels in the game, as it welcomes a new hazard, darkness. Throughout the whole level, the area will be pitch black, too dark for the Kongs to see. Luckily, the Animal Buddy, Squawks the Parrot will appear with his bright torchlight to shed light around the cave. When this is done, the monkeys will be able to see some of the cave, although the areas behind and above them will remain dark, causing quite a challenge to the level. As the heroes are guided by a narrow ray of light, they will be greeted by the enemies, Klumps, Krushas, and Mincers. Alongside all these foes are Oil Drums, which serve as a hard-to-avoid obstacle with their flames.

Level Layout

From the start of the level, the Kongs will meet Squawks. The three heroes must begin the level by traveling east into the dark cave. As they go, they will have hop platform-to-platform, defeating several Klumps, along with jumping over many Oil Drums. After the monkeys dodge all these obstacles, they will find a platform to help them cross a nearby abyss. The group must use it to do so and grab the letter O. Traveling farther will take them to another abyss with another platform. They must ride on the platform to cross and find themselves by another area like the before one. Again, they will need to use a platform to cross an abyss, while jumping over several Oil Drums, and then jump down a ledge to find the Star Barrel.

Halfway through the level, the heroes must crawl under a wall and walk a long distance on a bumpy path. As they go, they will have to jump over many Mincers and Krushas. Soon, they Kongs and the parrot must hop over a Mincer to find a sign, notifying the Kongs that the level is almost over. So, the group will have to journey a little farther and use a platform to ride up to a high ledge. After that, they must hop over some more foes, and finally jump over a Mincer to land next to the exit sign. Farther on is the way out of the level.

Bonus Level(s)

  • Shortly after the Star Barrel, the Kongs will find a lone barrel sitting next to a Krusha. They should pick up the barrel and throw it against the wall below to reveal an opening. They must walk in it to enter the first Bonus Level. There, the heroes will have to hit three barrels so each picture on them matches. Once the match is made, the monkeys will be awarded and then exit the stage.
  • At the end of the level, the monkeys will see another barrel. They must pick it up and jump over the Mincer to the right to land near the exit sign. There, they should blast away the wall to the left and enter the entryway they create. They will enter the Bonus Level, where they must jump on a Klaptrap to earn many Banana Bunches. When the Klaptrap is defeated, the Kongs will be able to exit the bonus.
