- Cranky Kong expressed desire in the Donkey Kong 64 players manual that poor Winky and Expresso should appear in the game, not that swordfish or that "bone-brained rhino that always seems to get in the games".
- Flibbits, the tropical frogs from Banjo-Kazooie, were based on Winky's design.
- In Banjo-Tooie, the evil witch Gruntilda let her last name, Winkybunion, slip out during the final boss fight. Banjo proceeds to call her "Winky".
