Template:Level Tree Top Town is the twelfth level of the classic Super Nintendo game, Donkey Kong Country. It is also the second level of the Vine Valley area on Donkey Kong Island.

This level is set in a village built in the treetops above the forests of Vine Valley. In Tree Top Town, houses and walkways are made of wood, and are tacked or bound with ropes to the enormous tree trunks. The town seems to be quite widespread, as the background shows several huts (the huts were removed in the background of the GBC remake), and even tall wooden ladders. The main obstacle in this level is the numerous Barrel Cannons that are scattered all over the area. The Kongs must be careful when using these barrels here, as there are many gaps between walkways. There are also Gnawtys, Neckys, and blue Kritters to make their job a little harder.

Most notably, artwork of an area called Tree Top Village is available for the Bonus Gallery of Donkey Kong Country Returns. However, this location is unplayable in the actual game and is considered a mere cameo.

The Level begins.

From the start of the level, the Kongs must head across a bridge and defeat a Gnawty to find a barrel. It will shoot them over a small gap and also into a DK Barrel. After this, the monkeys must travel into a nearby barrel and blast through a long chain of barrels over a wide abyss. With careful aim, they will get over it and cross a Gnawty-infested bridge. Another barrel will be waiting to the right for the monkeys to get in. Once they jump inside, they must shoot around more barrels to ride over another large gap. On the other side of it, they will have to reach another abyss. Again, with barrels, they must blast across the area, trying not fall into the pit below. After they are shot out of the final barrel, they will slam into the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the heroes will need to travel east and jump over a small gap. They can then shoot around two barrels to grab the letter O. Soon, they monkeys will encounter another abyss. It must be crossed with the barrels nearby. In these barrels, the heroes need to, as usual, use careful aim to get across. When they do get over it, they will have to journey farther east to find another gap.

The end of the level.

With more barrels than before, they will get across and then find yet another abyss. The group will need to blast around this long chain of barrels to the other side, where they will find a bridge covered in several Kritters. A simple cartwheel can defeat then all. After this part, the Kongs should jump into another barrel and shoot along some more barrels. Another abyss is located just past this area. When Donkey and Diddy reach it, they must carefully aim as each barrel moves up and down. In the last barrel, they should shoot toward a Necky to bounce to a ledge. There, they will have to jump up with a tire to reach a higher area and cross a small gap to find an exit sign. Father on is the way out of the level.

Bonus Level(s)

  • At the very beginning of the level, the Kongs should see a barrel in the top-left corner of the screen. To reach it, they must wait for the Necky nearby to fly under it. At this time, they need to jump on the foe and land in the barrel. It will take them to the Bonus Level, where they will have to hit four different barrels so they can spell out the word "Kong" in order. If all the letters are stopped on the barrels correctly, the monkeys will be awarded. When they are done, they can exit the Bonus Stage.
  • To find the second Bonus Level, the heroes must get into the barrels over the second abyss past the Star Barrel. In the last barrel over this abyss, the monkeys should shoot out of the barrel as it moves downwards. If done at the right time, they will land in the Bonus Level. There, they will have to use another barrel to shoot upwards into an area filled by many, many bananas. When the monkeys miss the barrel upon trying to land in it again, the bonus will end.
