Template:DKClevelbox Croctopus Chase is the twentieth level of the classic Super Nintendo Entertainment System game, Donkey Kong Country and the nineteenth in the Game Boy Advance remake. It is also the fourth level of the Gorilla Glacier area, and third level of the same world in the remake (having switched positions with Ice Age Alley).

Taking place in the depths of a freezing lake, Croctopus Chase is the third underwater level in the game. To complete the level, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong must navigate an underwater maze. However, with blue Croctopi chasing them through the narrow passages, it is a race against time. The Kongs must swim as fast as they can, otherwise they are attacked by the Croctopi. To make matters worse in this level, the Kongs also have to avoid the other underwater enemies, including Chomps, Chomps Jr., and the tiny, but mighty, Squidges. This is also the first underwater level in the series to feature Barrel Cannons.

Level Layout

From the start of the level, the Kongs must swim along a thin path and make their way to a Croctopus, found in a small alcoves. When passed, the Croctopus will chases the heroes. They will have to swim up to a DK Barrel, where the foe will stop the chase. Father on is another Crctopus. It will follow the Kongs along the U shaped path until another Croctopus is met. This one will chase them up a strait path. After it stops following them, the heroes must swim to the left and dodge some Squidges. Soon, another Croctopus will chase the Kongs. They will have to swim away from it quickly and move around a curvy, long path. Afterwards, the road of shining, blue coral will move downwards. When the monkeys swim down the path, they will land in a barrel cannon and shoot to the next area. There, they can go through a wall and break a DK Barrel, then head west to encounter another Croctopus. The foe will chase them up a long path. Once it stops, the Kongs will need to travel to the right, where they will find the Star Barrel.

Halfway through the level, the heroes must pass another Croctopus and rush to a DK Barrel to dodge it. After that, they will be greeted by another Croctopus. It will follow them as they race up a long path. When they get up there, the monkeys must swim downwards and encounter the next underwater Croctopus. Swimming through the water quickly, the group must head up a thin path to find another barrel cannon. It will shoot them to a safer area, where only a few Chomps can be found. Farther on, though, is another Croctopus. It will chase the heroes down a curvy road. When the foe stops chasing them, the Kongs must swim between two dangerous Chomps and encounter yet another Croctopus. It will chase them a long distance through a twisting and turning path. Before the foe stops, another Croctopus will begin to chase the Kongs. They will have to move very fast around the coral to meet the next Croctopus. It will chase them down a path to even another Croctopus. This Croctopus will quickly race up to the Kongs as they try to avoid it. Once Donkey and Diddy paddle up to a safe area, without any Croctopi, they will come into a small place filled with many, many Sqidges. They must exit the small area, grab the letter G, and pass the exit sign to leave the level.

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: After the third Croctopus begins to chase the heroes, they swim up through a narrow passage, which contains the letter K.
  • O: Once the Kongs shoot through the second pair of Barrel Cannons, they can spot a DK Barrel in an alcove being blocked by a wall. The primates can swim over this wall to reach the barrel. If they swim around the bend, they can find the letter O in a small area.
  • N: The letter N can be found in a narrow passage shortly after the fourth DK Barrel in the level.
  • G: The letter G is immediately before the exit sign at the end of the level.

Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only)

  • Once the primates shoot out of the fourth Barrel Cannon in the level, they should carefully swim backwards and travel back into the passage before the cannon (which they could not freely swim through before because the previous Barrel Cannon shot them past it). They can find a tight pathway in the center of the passage that leads into an area with the Photograph. Two Croctopi guard it.
