Sunbaked Desert Palace is a course in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It is found in the Sunbaked Desert and is unlocked after clearing either The Desert Mystery or Valley Fulla Snootles. This is a palace that has been taken over by Bowser Jr., where he uses to store all of the Sunbaked Desert's water that he has stolen. A Wonder Packun prevents access to the palace however and can only be removed if the players have at least fifteen Sunbaked Desert Wonder Seeds. The difficulty is four stars, and one Wonder Seed is housed here. Completion of this course awards the players a Royal Seed.

Layout[edit]

The players start outside of the palace where a concerned Talking Flower is. Upon entering, a Spike Ball appears and destroys Brick Blocks on the nearby sand. As the players make progress, there are Fire Bars that they must avoid. There is then a big area where two Thwomps are, waiting for players to walk below for them to crush. There is also another Fire Bat here. The first Checkpoint Flag is found right afterwards.

Past the first Checkpoint Flag are semisolid platforms leading upwards, where a Spike Ball and a Bone Goomba appear at. At the top is a pull handle that has the Wonder Flower, which causes time to speed up and slow down every few seconds after it has been obtained. The path ahead has a Thwomp, a Bone Goomba, more Fire Bars and pipes that spawn Spike Balls. There are then ramps leading higher that have Fire Bars on them and pipes that spawn Spike Balls at the end of them. At the peak of the ramps is a Roulette Block that cycles through a coin, 1-Up Mushroom, Super Mushroom, Elephant Fruit and Drill Mushroom. A slope leading downwards has a Spike Ball pipe at the start and Fire Bars in the middle of. There are then two sandy areas separated by solid ground; the first has two Thwomps near the ceiling while the second has a Spike Ball rolling around the area. The entire ceiling has Fire Bars scattered throughout. A gap with a Fire Bar in the middle of is then encountered, followed by another Fire Bar above a small area where sand is. After climbing up a semisolid platform where a Spike Ball is lies the Wonder Seed, and collecting it will stop the Wonder Effect and restore time to normal speed. Past the Wonder Seed is a long flight of stairs leading to the second Checkpoint Flag, as well as a gate leading to Bowser Jr.

Upon entering Bowser Jr.'s room, there is another Roulette Block, this time cycling through a Super Mushroom or a Fire Flower. The players will then enter water where Bowser Jr. is. He is annoyed to see the players again as he was enjoying a pool party, but he is determined to stop them from making any more progress. At the start of the battle, Bowser Jr. simply spins inside of his shell and chases after the players through the water. After taking damage he will transform into Wonder Bowser Jr. and lowers the water, as well as cause slow moving Water Balls to bounce around the screen. In addition to spinning in his shell, Wonder Bowser Jr. is also able to spin through the water, increasing his speed as well as attacking, and can fire off his "mouth" as a projectile, homing towards the players. After Wonder Bowser Jr. takes damage, he removes all the water from the ground and makes it near the ceiling instead, and also has spikes that cover the ground. After taking more damage, he brings the water back to the ground as well as returning the Water Balls, but he keeps the spikes on the ground. After taking even more damage, Wonder Bowser Jr. is defeated and reverts back to normal. Bowser Jr. then gets up and leaves. The players can then obtain the Royal Seed of the Sunbaked Desert and clear the course. In the cutscene afterwards, the water returns to the Sunbaked Desert.

10-flower coins[edit]

  • 10-flower coin 1: Found close to two Thwomps not far into the course. Stone Blocks form a wall to the left of the coin, and so the players must obtain the coin from the right side or by burrowing into the ceiling while in Drill Form to bypass the blocks.
  • 10-flower coin 2: Found from a pull handle past the first Checkpoint Flag.
  • 10-flower coin 3: Found close to the ceiling, as well as a fire bar further past the first Checkpoint Flag. To easily collect the coin, the players can drill into the ceiling and reach it.

Enemies and obstacles[edit]

Talking Flower quotes[edit]

  • "You're not going in there, are you?" (start of course)
  • "Good luck!" (in the cutscene after clearing the course)
