Drill Mario[1] is the form that Mario takes when he uses a Drill Mushroom in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. While in this form, Mario can defend from attacks coming from the above, drill into breakable objects with it (resembling a more powerful version of the Ground Pound), and burrow both underground and into the ceiling.[2] However, the drill cannot protect him from fire-based enemies and objects. These abilities are similar to those of the Spin Drill in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
When a character picks up a Drill Mushroom, a drill appears on top of their head; it replaces Mario and Luigi's caps, and Peach and Daisy's crowns. Their clothes become dark gray with details keeping the original character color; Mario and Luigi's shirts turn dark gray and their overalls red and green, respectively, Peach and Daisy's dresses turn dark gray with lighter diagonal stripes, while the panniers, collar and hem stay pink and orange respectively, Yellow and Blue Toad's spots, vests and shoes turn dark gray, and their caps and pants are yellow and blue respectively, and Toadette's dress turns dark gray, with the spots and her pants gaining a pink color.

While underground, try to position yourself directly under an enemy and then jump up—this can be an easy way to defeat them. And if you press down while in the air, you’ll be able to drill through certain things below you.
- Try jumping into certain ceilings as well. Explore around while you’re up there—some ceilings may even take you to hidden areas.
