They are pudgy boar-like enemies with a small, curly tail, orange fur, and a brown-reddish mane across their hunched back. They have two large tusks on each end of their lower jaw. Like most pigs, Schnautzels have a pink nose, and their fur is also traced by wavy stripes resembling flames. Their name is a portmanteau of the German words "Schnauze" (snout) and "Schnitzel" (fried meat), as well as the English word "snot".

A Schnautzel briefly appears in the short introduction cutscene of Windmill Hill. A Cheesy Chester holds up a stick with some bananas on it in front of a Schnautzel, who then proceeds to burn the bananas.
