Neckies are large brown vultures that prowl the skies of Donkey Kong Island. They seem to be affiliated with the Kremling Krew.

Appearances

The first appearance of Neckies was in the game Donkey Kong Country; they were common enemies and reprised that role in the Game Boy sequel, Donkey Kong Land. Neckies will try to attack Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong by flying into them, or by hitting them with coconuts. Neckies can be defeated by being jumping upon or hit by a barrel. Donkey Kong Country also features two Necky bosses named Master Necky and Master Necky Snr.

There is also a smaller subspecies of Neckies called Mini-Neckies. In Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land, they fire nuts at the player; in Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2 they lose this ability and instead launch themself at the player. Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2 also has a Mini-Necky boss named Krow. Normal Neckies don't appear in Donkey Kong Country 2 or Donkey Kong Land 2 and neither species appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble or Donkey Kong Land 3.

In Donkey Kong 64, two vultures that are presumably Neckies appear in the area Angry Aztec. One of these vultures is located in the Temple where Tiny Kong is found, and must be blasted several times with Lanky's Grape Shooter in order to cause it to drop its Golden Banana. The other Necky is actually benevolent and capable of speech. After Diddy Kong frees the vulture from the cage it is trapped in near Snide's HQ, it will challenge Diddy to a game; if Diddy can fly through all the rings the Necky drops he will obtain a Golden Banana.

In the game Super Smash Bros., Neckies can sometimes be seen flying in the background of the arena, Congo Jungle. In Super Smash Bros.'s sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Neckies can be seen in the background of the arena Jungle Japes.

Neckies appear in DK: King of Swing and its sequel DK Jungle Climber as enemies; the boss Fire Necky appears in DK: King of Swing. Neckies are also obstacles in the racing game Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast.
