Buffaloafers are initially found grazing on grass. When they notice the Kongs, Buffaloafers start chasing them around in an attempt to ram their horns into them. If the characters jump on top of a Buffaloafer, the enemy tosses them in the air, causing the player to briefly lose control over the Kongs but without inflicting damage on the characters. Getting hit by a Buffaloafer results in the Kongs losing a heart from their health meter.
A Buffaloafer's temper is similar to that of a bull. After spotting the Kongs, Buffaloafers try to attack them by ramming their large, crooked horns into the Kongs. Before that, they can be seen ruminating on patches of ground that host tall grass. They can potentially crash into a wall in their pursue of the Kongs. Upon hitting the wall, Buffaloafers turn upside-down, leaving their bellies discovered and bound to get stomped on three times, action that grants the animals' defeat. They can also turn on their backs if the Kongs collide with a swift roll into their ramming horns. An instant defeat can be obtained if the player lures the creatures off a ledge.

Nevertheless, Buffaloafers are massive and make use of a great strength. They can throw the Kongs up in the air if the latter try to land on their backs, and can cause damage with their enormous horns, taking out one heart from the Kongs' health bar with each hit. On the other hand, Cranky can perform a Cane Bounce on the buffaloes' backs and beat them in three hits.
Buffaloafers can be lured into a wall or rolled into their ramming horns to turn them temporarily upside-down, a state in which the Buffaloafer is vulnerable to stomp attacks, three of which are needed to defeat it. Cranky Kong can more directly defeat a Buffaloafer by performing three Cane Bounces off its back. Buffaloafers can be lured off a ledge, causing them to fall into a pit; however, unlike with other defeat methods, they respawn in their inital spot if the Kongs leave their area and return.

Buffaloafers are solitary in the game and can be found in Baobab Bonanza, as well as Rickety Rafters, where they behave the way described above. In Frantic Fields, a Buffaloafer is flown away by the savannah storm and crashed into a wooden bridge, breaking it right in front of the heroes.

Buffaloafers[1] are enemies in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port. These African buffaloes are only encountered in some levels of Bright Savannah. They wear a red bead necklace and sport a golden nose ring.

Buffaloafers can be found in Baobab Bonanza and Rickety Rafters, where they behave the way described above. In Frantic Fields, a Buffaloafer is flown away by the savannah storm and crashes into a wooden bridge, breaking it before the characters proceed to walk on it.
