Donkey Kong Island
Donkey Kong Island (also called DK Isles, DK Island and Kongo Bongo Island in the animated series) is the home of Donkey Kong and the rest of the Kong family.
The island is oddly shaped like Donkey Kong's head, complete with such features as ears and D.K.'s signature hair swirl. The island, despite not being extremely large has drasticly different climate in some areas, some areas being jungle, frozen wasteland and desert. Aside from Kremkroc Industries, Inc. and Big Ape City Donkey Kong Island remains fairly un-modernized. There are several smaller islands near Donkey Kong Island, some of which include Timber's Island and Kremlantis. Also there are several mysterious ruins (some of which have sunken into the ocean) on the island, it has been speculated that the Kremlings (whose own island was once nearby) may have built these temples, but it is unknown for sure.
Donkey Kong Island is first seen in the game Donkey Kong Country, which was for the Super Nintendo. Donkey and Diddy Kong, during their quest to re-obtain D.K.'s Golden Banana hoard from King K. Rool and his Kremling Krew had to travel threw the islands many areas, which included jungles, caves, glaciers and a large factory.
Several other locations of the island, such as Monkey Mountains were visited in Donkey Kong Country's pseudo-sequel Donkey Kong Land.
Donkey Kong Island made two cameo appearances in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, it can be seen in the backround of the areas Gangplank Galleon and K. Rool's Keep. In the GameBoy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 2 these cameos were removed.
Donkey Kong Island was not seen in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble or Donkey Kong Land 3, instead a new area called the Northern Kremisphere was featured.
Donkey Kong 64 featured a return of Donkey Kong Island, strangely the island was smaller in size here. Since the events of this game Donkey Kong Island has been lacking one of it's ears (it had been blown off by K. Lumsy).
Donkey Kong Island is also were the events of DK: King of Swing and the Donkey Konga series took place.
Appearances in Other Media
In several episodes of Captain N: The Game Master a world named "Kongo Land" was mentioned as the homeworld of Donkey Kong. Whether Kongo Land was an early version of Donkey Kong Island is unknown.
Donkey Kong Island was also the main setting of the Donkey Kong Country television series. On the show Donkey Kong Island was renamed "Kongo Bongo Island" the island was also shaped differently. Like in the games Kongo Bongo Island was home to the Kongs, among other creatures.
