However, it ended up being cancelled because in 2002, Microsoft paid $375 million (in US Dollars) for a 100% acquisition of Rare, which caused them to lose the rights to Donkey Kong characters, before development of the game was complete. After its cancellation and after Rare was sold to Microsoft, Diddy Kong Pilot was converted into the game Banjo-Pilot in 2005. Characters confirmed to appear in the game were Krunch, Dixie Kong, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, King K. Rool, Cranky Kong and a character tentatively called "Redneck Kong".
