Krow is a large, black-feathered Mini-Necky and King K. Rool's "eye in the sky."[1] He first appears in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and later appears in Donkey Kong Land 2. Like most pirates, Krow has a black tricorn hat with a skull on it. He also has a brown belt with a gold buckle around his body. Krow has three yellow claws on each of his two talons. Krow's name is a word play on the animal "crow", despite Neckys more closely resembling vultures than crows. In both of his games, he dies after being defeated in his boss fight. He later reappears in both games in Gloomy Gulch as a ghost, under the name Kreepy Krow.

Boss battle against Kreepy Krow

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and its remake, Krow is the first boss, and he is fought at Krow's Nest at the end of Gangplank Galleon. Krow attacks by picking up a large egg from his nest and throwing it at Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. Later on, Krow's other tactic is ramming his head into his nest, causing a few eggs to fall out and for one to land on the ground. Krow can take damage from the Kongs using an egg that he threw against him. After four hits, Krow is defeated and his Kremkoin appears.

Krow is later revealed to have died, when his ghostly form, Kreepy Krow, is fought as the boss of Gloomy Gulch's level named after him. The battle takes place on three different floors. On the first floor, Kreepy Krow sends three ghost Mini-Neckys and a regular one to charge at the Kongs. Beating the normal one spawns a Barrel. When this happens, Kreepy Krow flaps in a set pattern, attempting to damage the Kongs. They must quickly throw the Barrel to attack Kreepy Krow, and he then flies upward. While the Kongs climb to the next floor, Kreepy Krow drops large eggs at them. They must avoid the eggs to find Kreepy Krow on the next floor. Unlike last time, Kreepy Krow summons five ghost Mini-Neckys and a normal one, all of whom swoop faster. The Kongs must defeat the live Mini-Necky again and toss the spawned Barrel at Kreepy Krow. He flaps upward again, and then drops eggs while the Kongs climb on the rope but at a faster rate. On the third floor, Kreepy Krow sends seven ghost Mini-Neckys and another regular one. They all swoop even quicker than the ones on the previous two floors. The Kongs must again beat the normal Mini-Necky and throw the Barrel that spawns at Kreepy Krow to defeat him and earn his Kremkoin.

In the ending's Cast of Characters, Krow is classified under the Barnacled Bosses category with the other bosses though in the original game, Kreepy Krow is not; dialogue and the Player's Guide treat him simply as Krow (with "Kreepy Krow" just being the level title), so his exclusion is probably for the same reason. However, a few magazine publications do refer to him as "Kreepy Krow" and in the Game Boy Advance version, he does have a separate appearance in the cast roll. In the Game Boy Advance version, Krow's death is revealed prematurely, as his spirit can be seen leaving him and flying away.

Krow reappears in Donkey Kong Land 2, reprising his role as the boss of Gangplank Galleon and being fought at Krow's Nest, as well as later being fought in Gloomy Gulch as Kreepy Krow in his own level, whose sprites are now shared with Krow's. Krow is fought very similarly as before and is attacked using the same method as before. Krow starts by taking a large egg from his nest, swooping to the other side, and throwing it down at the Kongs. After a second hit, Krow's attack changes to moving left and right below his nest and causing eggs to fall down the stage individually; the fifth egg lands directly on the ground without spinning. After a fourth hit, Krow is defeated.

At the start of Kreepy Krow's boss battle, he sends four Mini-Neckys. Unlike the previous game, Diddy and Dixie are not required to defeat any of the Mini-Neckys because an egg, instead of a Barrel, falls on the stage after each one is dodged. The active Kong must throw it at Kreepy Krow. The pattern repeats a second time. After being hit again, Kreepy Krow flies upward, and drops eggs at the active Kong while they climb up. On the second floor, Kreepy Krow sends four more Mini-Neckys to attack the active Kong. Unlike last time, the egg briefly bounces after falling down. The Kongs must throw the egg at Kreepy Krow. Like on the lower floor, this cycle repeats again. After the fourth hit, Kreepy Krow is defeated, and the Kongs earn his Kremkoin.

In the ending's Cast of Characters, Krow is classified under "The Baddies" along with other enemies and bosses. Kreepy Krow is once again not listed separately in the cast, though Nintendo Power treats him separately.
