All-Terrain Vehicle

All-Terrain Vehicles, abbreviated as ATVs (known as Quad bikes outside North America) are vehicles first appearing in Mario Kart 8, alongside karts and bikes. There are quad bikes in different colors and they have features that differ from karts and bikes. Like the bikes, Princess Peach, her metal form, Princess Daisy, and Rosalina will still wear their biker outfits while riding ATVs.

The basic model of the ATV for all characters is the Standard ATV, a quad bike showing the character's emblem over the plate on the front and on the sides of the rear. The color of a Standard ATV also changes, matching the character's custom color. Four kinds of ATVs are available in the game, with the Bone Rattler being exclusive to the Animal Crossing × Mario Kart 8 DLC pack.

Interestingly, the game classifies all the ATV vehicle bodies as "Karts", as the player can still see CPU-players using the Standard ATV body whenever he/she restricts the vehicle body options to "Karts Only".
