This is a list of glitches in Super Mario Maker for Wii U.

Glitches

Currently working glitches

Fire Flower/Yoshi freeze

The player needs a Shell and a Fire Flower and Yoshi spawned next to each other. While holding the shell, if Mario tries to ride Yoshi while turning around and collecting the Fire Flower at the same time, the game will freeze.[1]

In the wall glitch

This glitch requires a giant Goomba's Shoe, multiple Cloud Blocks, and multiple solid blocks. The player must place a small rectangle with the Cloud Blocks no less than three blocks tall. They must put the solid blocks right on top of the rectangle of Cloud Blocks so the top is sealed. When playing it, they must get in the Goomba's shoe and get as close to the solid blocks as possible, then they must get out of the shoe and jump back in. Now, Mario and the shoe are halfway in the solid blocks. If the player jump out, the shoe disappears and Mario goes in the wall.

Object clipping

Normally, when Mario is crushed by a block, he dies instantly. However, if Mario is standing on Donut Blocks, Lifts, Thwomps, etc. the block pushes Mario through it. It is also possible to be pushed through objects such as Bill Blasters and One-Way Walls from the side. This also occurs with the 3DS version.

One-Way Wall bypassing

In all game styles, the player can place a Koopa Clown Car halfway through a One-Way Wall. After doing so, even if the player is on the other side of the One-Way Wall, they can still jump back into the Koopa Clown Car to bypass it.

Vine wall clipping

This involves blocks covering vines and the Super Mario Bros. style. First place two vines, then cover the vines with blocks. When playing, climb up the vine without the blocks, then at the top, press right to transfer to the other vine. Mario will instead clip through the ground blocks above and can freely walk through the wall.

Fixed glitches

Brick/solid block glitch

This glitch is similar to the invisible platform glitch, and requires a Brick Block, a track piece, and a solid block. The player must put the Brick Block onto the track, but make sure that the tab is not on the track. They must move the track so the Brick Block is overlapping the solid block. They must then select the track tab, grab an end of the track, and side it toward the Brick Block. If the Brick Block disappears into the solid block, then the glitch worked. Now, when Super Mario hits the solid block from below, the block breaks. When Mario hits a P switch and touches the block, the block disappears, and a coin is added to the player's total. This glitch was fixed in the version 1.20 update.

Fake Hard Block glitch

This glitch requires a Hard Block and a Hidden Block, as well as a track. The player must place the Hard Block down, and put the Hidden Block on the track. Then, they must drag the track with the block onto the Hard Block. If done correctly, the block, when stepped on, has no collision, causing Mario to fall through it. This glitch was fixed in the version 1.20 update.

Floating item glitch

This glitch requires two Bill Blasters, any power-up, enemy, or falling object, a Note Block with wings, a track, a Brick Block, and two solid blocks. The player must put the Note Block with wings onto the track, and one Bill Blaster on each end. They must put one solid block on each of the Bill Blasters to prevent them from bouncing into the air. Then, they must put the Brick Block so that it is sealing both of the Bill Blaster's launching parts. If assembled correctly, there should be a hole in the middle. The player must put a power-up, an enemy, or a falling object there. Now, if Mario hits a P Switch, the power-up, enemy, or falling object flies upwards. This glitch was fixed in the version 1.4.0 update, preventing it from being recreated, though levels with the glitch created before the update will still have it.

Four Bowsers

This glitch involves Bowser, track, and a Fire Bar. First, the player needs to place a track segment and place Bowser on it. Next, they need to place a Fire Bar on Bowser, then extend it to full length while simultaneously holding right on Circle Pad. After a couple screens, the player needs to press Undo, and the editor should lock up, causing the Fire Bar to remain. They then need to exit to the main menu. Bowser will be visible on the title screen, but when the player returns to the editor, the Fire Bar will replace him. The player needs to remove the firebar and start the level to make Bowser reappear, then go back into the editor. The player then needs to place two Bowsers, then delete the original to place another. When starting the level, the original Bowser will remain, bypassing the limit. Keep in mind that the original Bowser must be on a track or he will fall off the stage.

When performed, the glitch will cause random Bowsers to appear out of thin air upon starting a level before falling off-screen. To fix this, the player must restart the console. This glitch was fixed in the 1.32 version update.

Invisible platform glitch

This glitch requires a Cloud Block, a track piece, and a Hidden Block. The player must put the Hidden Block on the track, then change the tab to a different object. Next, they must put the track over the cloud platform, then switch to the track tab. Finally, the player must touch the track, and pull it towards the platform. If the player sees the cloud platform in front of the Hidden Block, then the glitch did not occur, but if the player just sees the Hidden Block, then the glitch occurred. This glitch was fixed in the version 1.2.0 update.

Multiple-Item ? Block glitch

This glitch involves a ? Block, a Lava Bubble, a Track, and a Super Mushroom. The player must place the Lava Bubble on a track, drag the Super Mushroom onto the Lava Bubble, then shake the Track. The player should then select undo twice, place the ? Block on the track with the Lava Bubble, then select play and return to the editor and duplicate the ? Block however many times as desired. The player must place an item in the ? Blocks, then drag the track with the Lava Bubble away and layer the ? Blocks on top of each other. It should be noted that the layered ? Block must have a track under it, otherwise it will fall off of the stage. When the player hits the ? Block, all of the items will pop out.[citation needed]

Small Koopa Troopa glitch

This glitch requires a Bill Blaster and a Yoshi, and only works in the New Super Mario Bros. U game style. The Bill Blaster needs to be shooting Koopa Troopas, and as soon as one comes out, Yoshi must eat it. This requires very precise timing, but if done properly, when Yoshi spits out the Koopa, its shell becomes smaller. When it comes out of its shell, it is about half its original size. This glitch was fixed in the version 1.4.0 update.

Solid block glitch

This glitch is similar to the invisible platform glitch and requires a Brick Block, a track piece, and a solid block. Put the Brick Block onto the track, but make sure that the tab is not on the track. Move the track so the Brick Block is overlapping the solid block. Select the track tab, grab an end of the track, and side it toward the brick block. If the brick block disappears into the solid block, then the glitch worked. Now, when Super Mario hits the solid block from below, the block will break. Or when Mario hits a P Switch and touches the block, the block will disappear, and a coin will be added to the player's total.

Wrong block art glitch

Sometimes, if one places a grass tile around other tiles (confirmed in the Super Mario World theme with the grass tile) then deletes the tiles around them, and then replacing them, that one tile may glitch and show the wrong tile art. There is another way to do this in the New Super Mario Bros. U theme (only confirmed on it, however).[2] This glitch was fixed in the version 1.11 update.
