Get the Lead Out is a 4-Player and Duel minigame in Mario Party DS. The name of the minigame comes from an idiom meaning "to move faster." This minigame appears as the fifth minigame in Score Scuffle.

Gameplay

Wario and Toad compete in a duel mini-game of Get the Lead Out in Mario Party DS
Duel minigame version

In the minigame, the players are pushing lead out of mechanical pencils as fast as they can in 10 seconds. Every button press increases the lead length by 0.3 units. Once the time is up, the screen moves over to show grid paper. It is at this time that the distances are measured. In the North American English release, the length is measured in inches. Elsewhere, it is measured in centimeters. These units are arbitrary and the numbers given are the same in all versions of the game. The player with the most lead pushed out wins the minigame.

The highest score possible is a lead length of 90.0 inches which is achieved through pause buffering.[1] In Score Scuffle, it is impossible to receive 1,000 points, as a player needs to achieve a score of 90.0 inches to earn 1,000 points, and 89.7 inches is the maximum score achievable without pause buffering.[2]

Like with other 4-Player/Duel minigames with a record system, if the current record is broken while everyone gets the same score in both variants, it counts as a new record even though no one won, as the screen says "Tie" after the "New Record" fanfare.

Ending

The winner does their victory dance on the grid paper. If a tie is declared, all the players do their losing animations on the grid paper.
