The "Ground Theme"[1] is the theme used in ground sections of levels in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, which was later redeveloped as Super Mario Bros. 2. It was composed by Koji Kondo and has been reused and rearranged in several games throughout the Super Mario franchise.

Game Description
Super Smash Bros. Melee The "Ground Theme" is included in as a track titled "Mushroom Kingdom II" and can be played on the stage of the same name. It also serves as Luigi's credits music.
NES Remix 2 / NES Remix Pack / Ultimate NES Remix The "Ground Theme" plays on almost every Super Mario Bros. 2 stage.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U The "Ground Theme" is included as a playable track titled "Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros. 2)". It can be played on the Peach's Castle (64) and Super Mario Maker stages.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate The "Ground Theme" is included as a playable track, now formatted as "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 2". It can be played on any Super Smash Bros.- and Super Mario-series stage.
Super Mario Maker 2 The "Ground Theme" plays whenever the player uses the SMB2 Mushroom in ground, sky, underwater, forest, desert, airship, and snow theme levels.

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

In Super Mario Bros. 2, the "Ground Theme" is given slightly more enhanced instrumentation compared to the Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic original and has an additional partition at the end. This arrangement is the version heard every time the original theme is reused throughout the Super Mario franchise.

Super Mario All-Stars[edit]

A new arrangement of the "Ground Theme" can be heard in Super Mario Bros. 2 ground levels in Super Mario All-Stars, as well as Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition.

Super Mario Advance[edit]

An arrangement of the "Ground Theme" similar to one heard in Super Mario All-Stars can be heard in the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Advance. This version is much more compressed than the Super Mario All-Stars version and uses different, lower-quality synthetic instruments.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, a short arrangement of the beginning of the "Ground Theme" is included in the theme heard in Scamper Shores, Slipskate Slope, and Risky Whisker Island.

Various arrangements of the "Ground Theme" can be heard throughout The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, as the show was primarily based on Super Mario Bros. 2.

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix[edit]

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix features a club remix of the "Ground Theme", titled "Boo Boogie", as a playable song.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars[edit]

Much like Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars features three different arrangements of the "Ground Theme", which can be heard in levels in Rolling Hills.

The first arrangement returns as a playable track in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, titled "Rolling Hills A", where it can be played on any Super Smash Bros.- and Super Mario-series stage.

An arrangement of the "Ground Theme" is featured as a playable track in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where it can be played on any Super Smash Bros.- and Super Mario-series stage. This arrangement features prominent brass, woodwind, and piano instrumentation.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]

A brief arrangement of the beginning of the "Ground Theme" can be heard during "Level Complete", the credits theme of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as a transition between the arrangements of Super Mario Bros.'s "Ground Theme" and "Underground Theme".

Famicom Music Vol.2[edit]

A medley arrangement of several themes from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic including the "Ground Theme", titled 「ドキドキパニック (アレンジ・バージョン)」 (Doki Doki Panikku (Arenji Bājon), "Doki Doki Panic (Arrange Version)") is included in the Famicom Music Vol.2 album, composed by Yoshihiro Kunimoto.

Super Mario Compact Disco[edit]

A hip-hop arrangement of the "Ground Theme" by the Ambassadors of Funk is included in the Super Mario Compact Disco album, titled "Super Mario USA", the Japanese title of Super Mario Bros. 2.

Nintendo Live 2023[edit]

Nintendo Live 2023 in Seattle, Washington, USA featured a live performance by the Super Mario Super Big Band of themes from various Super Mario games, including an arrangement of the "Ground Theme" portion of "Level Complete" from The Super Mario Bros. Movie.[2]
