Pot Hole Panic is the seventeenth level in Donkey Kong Land, as well as the first area in Monkey Mountains. A level later appeared in the game, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble with the same name. This game's version had Pot Hole Panic as the twenty-ninth level, along with it being the fourth area of Razor Ridge.

In Donkey Kong Land, this cavern level must be explored carefully by the Kongs, as enemies will be lurking all around. Of these enemies are Zingers, Armies, Klaptraps, Krushas, and even the rare foe, Necky. Each enemy contributes to the level's difficulty, as well as the several pits found throughout the cave. Tires also appear a few times in this dark, damp level, and help the heroes reach higher ledges and get over the many abysses.

The level reappeared in Donkey Kong Country 3. Here, the Kongs must ride on every Animal Buddy found throughout the game. For the first section of the stage, the Kongs will get to ride Squawks, who is the only Animal Buddy not optional in the level. This part is followed by a second part riding on Enguarde around a watery section, along with another part where the heroes must ride on Ellie, although only for a short time. In the level's final section, the monkeys must ride on Squitter the Spider through more of the long cave. The enemies in this game's Pot Hole Panic include, Booty Birds, Kopters, Kocos, Lurchins, Bounty Bass, Kuchuka's and Buzzes.

Level Layout
Donkey Kong Land
From the start of the level, the Kongs must travel to the right and bounce off of a tire to reach a high up DK Barrel. After this, they will have to walk a little farther into the dark cave. There a several ledges that they must climb up, and once up them all, the monkeys will see a big wall in the way. They should crawl into the small space under it and get to the other side of it. This must be done again, as there will be another wall in the Kongs' path. After they get under all the walls, the heroes must ride across a small platform to get across a wide gap. Once they are over this pit, they should make their way down a large ledge and crawl under a wall, followed by a second one. Getting this obstacle done will take this monkeys to an area with a dangerous Krusha. They will need to jump over the foe, and continue on. Another pit must be crossed after this. Donkey and Diddy Kong should use a nearby platform to cross it, and then jump over a lone Zinger to get to the other end safely. After this, they will need to use a tire to reach a high ledge, and then walk down several ledges. These ledges are occupied by Kritters and other foes, so the Kongs should be careful. Soon, the heroes will make it to the end of a ledge, which they should jump off of to find the checkpoint.

From this point, the group will find a tire laying around. They should push it under some Zingers and down a ledge, then stop. With the tire, they should bounce to a high ledge. Here, there is a DK Barrel to break, and the monkeys must carry on from here. After cross a small pit, they must keep going east and defeat a Kritter. Walking a little farther will take them to a Necky, who will have to be avoided at all costs. The heroes will have to dodge a few more enemies after that, and soon cross another wide abyss with the aid of a moving platform. As the platform swings over the pit, the monkeys must jump over a Zinger and land on another platform. This one will take them to the other side of the pit, where they will see a portal. It will take them out of the level.

Donkey Kong Country 3
When the Kongs begin the level, they must fall into a thin gap and land on a crate with Squawks in it. They should grab onto the parrot and ride to the east. As they fly through the mostly strait path, they will be greeted by Kuchukas, whose bombs must be avoided at all costs. After passing four Kopter, gliding in and out of small alcoves, the heroes must float downwards, and then hover to the west. As they travel in this area, they will need to defeat a few Booty Birds. Soon, the heroes will find an underwater area. There, Squawks will drop them off and fly away. So, the monkeys will have to swim over a few Kocos to find Enguard. The large fish must be ridden through the water, beating many different species of foes. After the three swim through the narrow paths around several Lurchins and Bounty Basses, they will enter an open area with more Lurchins. They will need to swim around the foes and swim in a U shaped path to find the outside of the lake, where they must hop off of Enguarde and jump onto a ledge. There, they will find the Star Barrel, as well as a crate.

Halfway through the level, the group will need to break open the crate near them to find Ellie the Elephant. The buddy must be ridden through an area full of rowdy Kuchukas and Kopters. After they dodge each of the foes on the eastward path, they must fall into a gap and land into another lake. There, the Kongs will have to say goodbye to Ellie as they leave her and hop up into a high up barrel nearby. It will shoot them to the next area, where Squitter can be found. The spider must be ridden under two dangerous Kopters. After that, the heroes will have to avoid a Booty Bird, being surrounded by another Kopter. Once they pass this short part, the monkeys and Squitter should continue east and watch out for the bombs of a Kuchuka. Farther on is a No Animal Sign. Squitter will then disappear, allowing the Kongs to get onto the flagpole to the right and exit the level.

Bonus Level(s)
*Before the letter O, the Kongs will find the second tire in the level. They should push it along the path and under a wall. After getting under one of the walls, the heroes will notice a barrel above them. With the tire, they must bounce up to the barrel and be shot to the Bonus Level. Here, they should break open a nearby crate and find Rambi in it. They must get on the Animal Buudy's back and ride him through the bonus. Rambi must charge into a few Kritters and then cross a small gap to find a large group of bananas. Once these are collected, the animals can exit the level by using a nearby barrel. Once out of the Bonus Level, the Kongs will no longer have Rambi with them.

Bonus Level(s)
*When the heroes dive into a watery area on Ellie the Elephant, they should head west and look up to see a Bonus Barrel. If the Kongs jump off of Ellie as she jumps in mid-air, they will fly high enough to reach the barrel. Once they get in it, they will be taken to the Bonus Level, where they must use Ellie again to hop up and reach many stars. After all the stars are collected, a Bonus Coin will appear nearby. In the Game Boy Advance version of the game, the bonus was slightly changed. Instead of using Ellie to grab the stars, the monkeys will have to jump upwards alone and grab the objects above them.
*Shortly after finding Squitter, the heroes will notice several bombs raining down on them. Squitter will have to find the source these bombs by climbing upwards into an opening with his web platforms. Soon, the group will find that a Kuchuka had been throwing the bombs, guarding a nearby Bonus Barrel. The heroes will need to jump into the barrel to the right to enter the Bonus Level. There, they must collect many green bananas before time runs out. As they go, however, they will be attacked by a Kuchuka and its bombs. Once enough bananas are collected, the Bonus Coin will appear nearby.

DK Coin
Immediately after passing the final No Animal Sign in the level, Kiddy must pick up Dixie and preform a Team-up move, throwing the monkey up to an above ledge. There, the two will find a Koin with the DK Coin. The foe must be defeated to get the item, though he will be using the coin to guard himself. So, the Kongs will have no choice but to pick up the keg at the top-left part of the screen and stand on the enemy. If they throw the keg into the wall on the right as they stand on the Kremling, it will bounce back and defeat him, giving the heroes their DK Coin.

Trivia
*This level in Donkey Kong Country 3 is very similar to Animal Antics from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, as the Kongs will get to ride all of the game's rideable Animal Buddies in it. However, Animal Antics is notably harder.
