The Hovercrafts in Diddy Kong Racing vary with each character. Unlike the Cars and Planes, the Hovercrafts are usable in every level except for some battle stages and boss tracks. They appear to be very powerful as they are able to hover across water and even lava. However, hovercrafts are considered to be the most difficult vehicle to control, due to their tricky steering capabilities. In the DS version, players racing in the Hovercraft must blow into the DS' microphone to initiate a Rocket Start at the beginning of a race. It is the only vehicle that can be used on every track in the game.

Hovercrafts are one of the three vehicles in Diddy Kong Racing and Diddy Kong Racing DS. Their main attribute is the ability to float across bodies of water, including lava. They are the default vehicle of those stages, which are the main theme of Sherbet Island. It is the only hub world where the character drives around in a Hovercraft. These vehicles can be driven in every stage except, and the only one as such, except some boss fights and certain battle stages.

Hovercrafts are considered to be the trickiest vehicle to control, mainly because of their steering capabilities. In the Nintendo DS remake, players can initiate a Rocket Start by blowing into the DS's microphone.

Colors

In the original Diddy Kong Racing, every character's Hovercraft had its own color, just like Cars and Planes. In Diddy Kong Racing DS, every character's Hovercraft is yellow by default. However, the player can add change its color from Taj's Wishes menu, among other customization options.
