Talk:List of references and parodies

Hang on a minute... There's already a Cameos article similar to this, so this is pretty much a duplicate. I think this should be deleted (and at least have some info from here that isn't in the original to be merged). Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC
When I created this page I wasn't aware that the cameos page existed but if it comes down to a choice between the articles I think that this article has the most relevant title. Meta KnightonHalberd.jpg Commander Code-8 Artwork of Waluigi, from Mario Kart Wii.

Mario TV Epidodes[edit]

Many Mario episodes of the old TV shows were based on movies, such as Star Wars and Robocop, with a Ghostbusters crossover. Why can't they be mentioned?

Basically, 2/3 episodes of every cartoon series are based onnce wh old film hits like Star Wars, I suppose it's because of that. YoshiCGicon.pngTSUNAMIArtwork of Plessie with the four playable characters, from Super Mario 3D World.

Intentional or Not?[edit]

I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the tune that plays when a player ranks out in Super Mario Kart sounds exactly like a segment from Julius Fučík's "Entry of the Gladiators". If so, can we list it as a reference? Super Mario Kart - Ranked Out and Julius Fučík's "Entry of the Gladiators" Torey (talk) 04:16, 11 March 2018 (EDT)

That's definitely intentional; "Entry of the Gladiators" is a famous song. It's already listed, though it said it only "sounds similar" to the song before I fixed it. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 05:19, 11 March 2018 (EDT)

In the original Donkey Kong, it sounds like the music that plays when Donkey Kong is climbing to the top of the construction site with Pauline was inspired by the beginning portion of the theme song of "Dragnet". Just listen to it, and tell me what you think. Torey (talk) 21:18, 11 April 2018 (EDT)

Hellooooooo? Torey (talk) 06:11, 12 April 2018 (EDT)

Don't bump. This is not a forum. I still have topics that haven't been answered in half a year, you can be patient. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 06:21, 12 April 2018 (EDT)
It's an iconic tune that's also made its way to a number of other games, too, so I'd say so. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 07:01, 12 April 2018 (EDT)

Commercials?[edit]

Is it okay to state that the opening song from the only known Mario Bros. Atari 2600 commercial is a direct parody of the theme song from Car 54, Where Are You?? Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 15:45, March 27, 2019 (EDT)

Yes, and it has been. Thanks. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 21:57, July 8, 2019 (EDT)

Rewrite template[edit]

About the template for a rewrite: I don't think the article has to be rewritten, per se, but rather that speculation should be labeled as such (for example, "House of Boos from Mario Party: Star Rush is directly based on the Pac-Man arcade game" is speculation and should be labeled as it, while "The music that plays when the player begins Phase 1 is Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik" is not speculation and should be kept as is). Expand[edit]

Joe wants me to do something that's out of my reach, so someone please add the references in the third Donkey Konga game. Lord Falafel (talk) 02:03, September 20, 2019 (EDT)

Second Doraemon Reference[edit]

In the Super Mari-Old story, Dr. Mario uses a time machine to go back to the future, which is essentially Doraemon's time machine.
