Candidates and Voting[edit]

Meta Knight (talk) / Superchao (talk)[edit]

Greetings everyone, I am here running again along with Superchao (talk) as Sub-Director. Last year, I promised that this year would be used to help the project feel more relaxing, as 2016 had a lot of hardships in it. Looking back, I've noticed that throughout the year, activity has grown. More people are voting in polls, we have plenty of new writers, and it is such a wonderful thing to see the growth of this project. I'm sure Super Mario Odyssey has been a factor in the influx of new users, but I like to think that I have helped The 'Shroom grow in some way.

I would like to run The 'Shroom again to continue this new wave. I do not have anything huge planned, but there will be the usual summer and holiday specials though. If there's changes that need to be made, I am open to new ideas, such as the merging of User and 'Shroom Awards ceremonies to one. I have also done my best to always be prepared. We were able to get Issue 124 together in a day when our staff wiki went down, and I thank Superchao, and the rest of the staff for being able to handle it. Communication is important, and I feel that this team keeps the balance that this project requires.

The 'Shroom is truly something special in this community. It has been running for over 10 years, and is something that I see people look forward to every month. I would love to be able to take another year as Director, and continue to help the project grow within the community. Thank you for considering me again and thanks for reading.

draggadonYoshi (talk)[edit]

Hello, this is draggadonYoshi (talk), and I would love to have the honor of running the 'Shroom this year. Many of you may not recognize me, because I have only been part of the community for a few weeks now. However, I was an avid 'Shroom reader (and still am), which is what first drew me into the Super Mario Wiki and the greater community and of course, was what made me join here.

While it is true that I do not have prior experience of any work with the 'Shroom (writing, etc.) I feel that some new faces in the crowd will take it in a great new direction. Although I, as a candidate may not be as experienced as you would hope for in this position but I can assure you that I will do a great job of running the newsletter in the coming year.

Like Meta Knight's campaign, I don't have any special plans, and all of the features and traditions that you know and love about the 'Shroom will remain. It will continue to be integrated with the polls on the wiki's main page, and the Mario awards; I also plan to include more people to be involved the 'Shroom to enrich this. I'm also open to any and all suggestions and new ideas that community members may have, and with your help, we can continue to keep up the 'Shroom as a key feature of our website dedicated to all things Mario. Thank you for reading and considering my campaign!

Election Comments[edit]

As I've stated, managing The 'Shroom requires an intricate balance of communication, dedication, and leadership. A Director is nothing without a team of hard-working staff and writers to maintain the growth of the project. Throughout my term this has been my goal. I'm very passionate about the project, and I care about seeing the growth. I look forward to seeing new writers, as it goes to show me that there's many people that enjoy The 'Shroom, and that gives me motivation to continue on, and makes the job worth it. Sure, me or Perch may be the ones that upload the issues on that exciting release date, but the real stars of The 'Shroom is all of you!

Another thing I would like to make a note of that in my campaign I didn't specify any plans because, well, I don't really have a lot to say. I feel that many of you already know my general plans, as I have been building on them this entire term. In 2015, there were a lot of special issues. However, as someone wise once said, "If every issue is special, then no issue is special". It was getting to a point where the staff was getting stressed out trying to keep up with all of them. Each special would surpass the previous one, setting a new bar. Again, a healthy staff morale leads to a better issue, and I would rather not repeat this cycle of The 'Shroom, as well put-together these past specials have been. That being said, I am not one to simply disregard tradition without a good reason, so I still have a summer and holiday special planned. Issue 123 was really fun to work with. The theme of Wario was goofy and it had never been done before. I think the staff and writers needed something light-hearted to work with, and Issue 123 definitely delivered. I have some ideas for what to make the summer special for 2018, but I wouldn't want to reveal the theme this early, it's best left a surprise!

All in all, I just wanted to provide a bit of insight as to what goes on behind the scenes for The 'Shroom, and show the steps I have done in greater detail. It isn't the easiest thing in the world, but I love what I do, and I hope that you all will continue to enjoy The 'Shroom with what I have to offer.

Also draggadonYoshi, ArchagentEverlasting must be an autoconfirmed user in order to be elligible to be your running-mate. Please have him make 5 edits to satisfy the condition, or please choose a new runningmate. If you are interested in doing a debate, please let me know and we can have that arranged. Meta Knight (talk) 14:14, 1 January 2018 (EST)

ArchagentEverlasting's autoconfirmed status has been taken care of, thanks for pointing it out. As for a debate, what is it on? If you mean plans for running the Shroom that you have described above, then I would be up for it. --DraggadonYoshi (talk) 21:04, 2 January 2018 (EST)

The debate is about plans for running The 'Shroom. You and I will answer questions people have in the IRC channel #mwshroom. If you need help figuring out how to get there I am willing to assist you. If you can let me know what times you are available in your time zone, we can have it take place then for anyone to join for the debate. Alternatively, we can use the 2017 Director Election thread on the forums. Please let me know with what you would prefer. Meta Knight (talk) 21:57, 2 January 2018 (EST)

I'd like to do it on the forum, if that's ok with you. Any day between 1 to 3 pm Eastern time will work for me--DraggadonYoshi (talk) 12:09, 3 January 2018 (EST)

I have opened the debate with a post in the 2017 Director Election thread in 'Shroom board on the forums. Meta Knight (talk) 20:00, 3 January 2018 (EST)
