Naming Source[edit]

“The White Block contains magic powers that will enable you to defeat your enemies.”

Do we know for sure that Peach's letter refers to the carryable blocks? Notably in the remakes, the "white blocks" are not white at all, but the letter still says "white block". I suggest that Peach is actually talking about Note Blocks, which often contain powerups ("magic powers"), and are white in all releases. WilliamFrog (talk) 18:00, November 18, 2023 (EST)

I had assumed the background blocks that you can fall through, as a hint to getting the recorder in 1-3. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:17, November 18, 2023 (EST)
While that is also a possibility, I don't believe that enables defeating any enemies. WilliamFrog (talk) 18:27, November 18, 2023 (EST)
I'm curious if she says the same thing in the Japanese release. If it's written differently, that may help. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:27, November 18, 2023 (EST)
It says しろいぶろっくは てきを けちらす まほうの ちからがあるそうよ。 which seems to mean basically the same thing as the English letter. Blinker (talk) 19:48, November 18, 2023 (EST)
I presume that the けちらす part is a play on words, since it's literally "to kick and scatter about" (although it's more often in a figurative sense of defeating). LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:56, November 18, 2023 (EST)
Is it changed in the remake to not call them white? WilliamFrog (talk) 20:16, November 18, 2023 (EST)
As I recall, no, but the Shogakukan Super Mario Collection guide also refers to the Buster Beetle blocks with the same name, last I checked. LinkTheLefty (talk) 23:25, November 18, 2023 (EST)
