Name change[edit]

All mentions of Katakata Yariho on this article (except for the title) have been changed to Sleeping Spear Guy. Sleeping Spear Guy is a conjunctural name and as such, all mentions should be changed back. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 16:13, March 4, 2024 (EST)

I changed it back since it didn’t have any source. 1468z (talk) 17:04, March 4, 2024 (EST)

Decide how to organize Spear Shy Guy and/or Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) with Spear Guy[edit]

This is a follow-up to a previous proposal by Koopa con Carne (talk). Katakata Yarihō has been excluded by the proposal, and I think it's time to re-examine now that it's Spear Shy Guy.

There are two spear-wielding Shy Guys within the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, and while they don't appear in the same game together, they both act fairly differently. The first, Spear Shy Guys, are indicated to be "toy" Spear Guys, but have an attack pattern closer to Sairesu from the Game Boy Donkey Kong. The second, the Shy Guys (American English) / Spear Guys (British English) from Minis March Again!, seem at first like just a visual indication that Mini Marios cannot jump on them (which was removed from later games), but there is a noted difference in function; this one also had a previous proposal, but unlike the Snifits, the spikes pass through semisolid girders and thus gives it an extended damage range that doesn't return in later games with the non-spear-wielding Shy Guys (although Mini-Land Mayhem! has an unused remnant). Both spear wielders look like a basic derivative of the toyish Shy Guy rather than the tribal Spear Guy, but hold the spears vertically like most Spear Guys do. They also lack the shields, but that's not in every Spear Guy appearance either, and it probably would be unbalanced if they can block attacks in a game with one-hit lives, plus it may have given the player the wrong impression that it acts like Sir Shovalot. I can see this going one of several ways.

  1. Merge both the Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Minis March Again! spear-wielding toy Shy Guys with their base Spear Guy counterpart. This will not be too unlike the toy Boos from the previous proposal, which exhibit different behavior between games.
  2. Merge the Mario vs. Donkey Kong version with Spear Guy only. This leaves the basic Minis March Again! version grouped with Shy Guy, not Spear Guy.
  3. Merge the Minis March Again! version with Spear Guy only. This just keeps the more unique Mario vs. Donkey Kong version as its own article.
  4. Merge the Minis March Again! version with the Mario vs. Donkey Kong version. This keeps them together, but not within the main Spear Guy.
  5. Re-split the Minis March Again! version from Shy Guy. In this scenario, the Mario vs. Donkey Kong version may be considered comparable or related.
  6. Re-split the Minis March Again! version from Shy Guy, and merge the Mario vs. Donkey Kong version with Spear Guy. The subjects effectively trade article-hood.
  7. Keep the Mario vs. Donkey Kong version split from Spear Guy and the Minis March Again! version merged with Shy Guy. aka the "do nothing" or "status quo" option.

To put it another way, this is how each of them would be affected:
Mario vs. Donkey Kong version — If Options 1, 2, 4, or 6 pass, the Spear Shy Guy dev data name will be dissolved in favor of English Spear Guy, relegated to a mention in the internal names section.
Minis March Again! version — If Options 1, 3, or 4 pass, these Shy Guys will also primarily be known as Spear Guys, supported by this proposal, and Shy Guy will generally be treated as a misname in this case; if Options 5 or 6 pass instead, "Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!)" will be their resulting article.
If Option 4 passes, the resulting article that merges the Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Minis March Again! versions will be "Spear Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong series)"
If Options 5 or 7 pass, then there is no need for any name changes as of now.

Option 1: Merge both Spear Shy Guy and Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) with Spear Guy[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My primary.
  2. Arend (talk) Per proposal.
  3. ThePowerPlayer (talk) Both of these enemies are clearly toy Shy Guys holding a spear, and they are referred to by that distinction, even if only through an internal filename and the British English version of Minis March Again!, respectively. Since the toy versions of both the non-spear Shy Guy and Boo are merged with their regular counterparts, it seems reasonable to merge both of these spear-wielding toy Shy Guys with the similarly functioning Spear Guy.
  4. MegaBowser64 (talk) Per all of yall

Option 2: Merge Spear Shy Guy with Spear Guy only[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My tertiary.

Option 3: Merge Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) with Spear Guy only[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My quaternary.

Option 4: Merge Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) with Spear Shy Guy[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My secondary.

Option 5: Re-split Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) from Shy Guy only[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) My quinary.

Option 6: Re-split Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) from Shy Guy and merge Spear Shy Guy with Spear Guy[edit]

Option 7: Keep Spear Shy Guy split from Spear Guy and Shy Guy (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!) merged with Shy Guy[edit]

Looks like I finally found someone who's as obsessed with the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series as I am. ThePowerPlayer Slug.png ThePowerPlayer 11:19, March 22, 2024 (EDT)
