The Catch & Win! minigame in the World Maker mode of Super Mario Maker 2.

Catch & Win! is a minigame in the World Maker mode in Super Mario Maker 2. It can be played by placing a green Toad House with a baseball on its roof and entering the Toad House on the world map.

In this minigame, the player must press A Button to jump and catch 10 baseballs fired by a cannon that resembles a Bill Blaster, so that the baseballs do not hit the green Toad House behind the player. The player always jumps at the same height after pressing A Button, and they only remain in the air for a fraction of a second while jumping. The player earns five extra lives by catching every ball, three lives if the Toad House is hit once, and one life if the Toad House is hit twice. If the Toad House takes three hits at any time, the player fails the minigame and Weird Mario appears from inside the house and shoos them away.

The cannon can shoot several different types of pitches, which can be distinguished by the sound effect played when the ball is fired from the cannon:

  • Fastball (85 mph): A standard shot that moves straight at a constant speed.
  • Knuckleball (68 mph): A shot that moves more slowly than the fastball, and begins to oscillate vertically when it is roughly halfway across the screen.
  • Changeup (60 mph): A slow shot that moves in an arc. The cannon tilts upwards before firing a changeup.
  • Forkball (75 mph): A shot that moves downwards when it is roughly halfway across the screen, requiring the player to remain on the ground to catch it instead of jumping.
  • Heater (100 mph): A shot which is identical to the fastball, except that it moves more quickly. The cannon turns red and shakes before firing a heater.

Music[edit]

The music that plays at the start of the minigame is an arrangement of the title theme from the NES game Baseball, using instruments akin to the SNES's sound chip. Several sound effects in the minigame are also taken directly from Baseball.
