100m is an Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade Edition. The aim of the event is to run 100m in the fastest time possible, with the starting world record being 9.580 and the starting Olympic record being 9.630. The event takes place in the Olympic Stadium, and the characters with this as a recommended event are Mario, Sonic, Shadow and Metal Sonic. Omega is also able to be challenged as a guest character in this event.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player begins with a starting dash, performed by pushing the joysticks upwards to charge power and then pulling down at the end of the countdown to start. The player can receive more of a boost by charging up for a longer period of time and pulling downwards immediately after "Go!". Once the character has started, the player runs on the cabinet base to increase their character's speed, with the increase depending on how fast the player is able to run. Towards the end of the track, the character enters the jump zone, in which they can perform a special dash. To do so, the player must jump at any point in the zone to perform their character's special dash. If they jump early in the zone, the character's dash may not last until the finish line, and the player will have to run again to reach the finish line.

At the end of the event, the player's performance will be ranked in the categories of Start, Run and Final Sprint.
